Waveney House Hotel

We have stayed at the Waveney a few times now, most recently for a valentines special.

The location of the hotel is superb, set in the quiet village of Beccles and down a small lane off the main road. The hotel itself is located right on the Norfolk Broards giving you stunning views on the river and countryside across the river, so road noise is non-existent.

During the summer months the the hotel is a gorgeous place to visit, with large outside areas to chill out and relax beside the river and also very family friendly.

The hotel entrance is very well presented, and welcoming in the winter months as they have a selection of leather chairs to relax in beside the large wood burner.

The public bar area is well presented and leads into a large, bright conservatory (even in winter months) which then leads straight out beside the river. With attentive staff and quite a good selection of beers, wine and soft drinks for the little ones. The food served is gorgeous, well priced and will usually arrive in 30 minutes or so.

The rooms are also very nice with comfortable beds. Although the rooms are nicely presented you won't find a mini-bar or air-con in any of the rooms. Not that we have every seen this as a problem, but some people may see this as an issue.

The restaurant area is also nicely presented with welcoming staff ready to seat you. Again we really could not fault the food and selection of drinks available. If you are booking request a table by the river, as even at night the views are lovely as the river is partly lit up.

There are very few down sides to The Waveney, but you should be aware the hotel is surrounded on 2 sides by its carpark so views from some rooms may not be as good as others and we feel the bathrooms could do we a make over as they are starting to look and feel tired.

Overall we love the Waveney as a location to visit of a quick drink or for a short stay and would not
hesitate to visit again and again. :)

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the river.

I have stayed several times at this hotel which has a great view of the Waveney River which runs alongside. The staff have always been extremely friendly & helpful, & the service excellent. The rooms I've stayed in have been furnished to a high standard & can be recommended.

My family and i (12 people) booked a table for Boxing Day lunch and sorry to say we wouldn't do so again. Its a shame because I have been to The Waveney for lunchtime bar meal and enjoyed it. However today the service from waiting staff was very poor.Disorganised and slow. Yes it is Christmas and we appreciated that but when you have to send back food to be heated up because by the time the vegetables arrived the meat and yorkshires are stone cold surely that warrants an apology? Not with the waitress serving us. We felt our table was being avoided possibly because we mentioned poor service to the waiter. We think the manageress took our order for puddings and was 1st rate but it was a shame that she didn't ask us if there was a problem. At the end of the meal she wasn't about and we were glad to leave so didn't seek her out. It was an uncomfortable experience.

Over the Christmas period we provided 8,500 meals and unfortunately we received this complaint, which we apologise for, if it is in actual fact correct. Unfortunately the other 8,499 satisfied customers have not written on Tripadvisor.

What a wonderful setting next to the river and furthermore walking distance to the town centre. This hotel is very well maintained & I found the staff very friendly and accommodating. Rooms were absolutely spotless and the food offering certainly met with our budget.

My wife and I had a really enjoyable stay at this wonderfully situated hotel right beside the river Waveney. We were joined by some friends and sat down in the conservatory overlooking the river, which was floodlit. We ordered some food which arrived promptly by courteous and polite staff. The fish and chips was the largest and tastiest piece of fish I have ever had on all my travels. Very good value for money! The room was very interesting with ask beams and a well equipped and large bathroom. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be coming back soon!
