“Stunning location”
Reviewed 18 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

the cottage is right by the sea with amazing views to islands near and far (St Kilda on a clear day). We saw many birds, seals and an otter from our bedroom and the kitchen windows.
The cottage was comfortable and the downstairs bedroom and bathroom worked well for my elderly mother. Five adults stayed in the cottage and we were very comfortable. The cottage was well equipped. The wifi didn't work until 1st Sept (we arrived on 29th August) as the allowed limit had been reached - it then worked well. Shops were far better stocked than we had expected. There aren't many places to eat out but Stepping stones restaurant was good value. Langass Lodge was amazing for a special meal. The boat trip on the Lady Anne was a highlight - seeing a white tailed eagle taking a fish from the sea as well as red deer and seals. The beaches are stunning and are a minutes walk from the cottage (which we all enjoyed especially our black Labrador, Welly!). We had Vodafone phone coverage throughout the islands. The cottage is a real escape from the daily hassles of life! It would be nice to have a visitors book - so walks, restaurants etc can be recommended by guests. Overall a totally relaxing holiday!

“Great holiday away from the maddening crowd!”
Reviewed 15 May 2015 for a stay in April 2015

Spent 2 weeks at Creagan Ruadh with son, his wife and two teenage children. Had mixed weather - sometimes very cold with strong winds, but we are all used to that and really enjoyed the house, RSPB Reserve and surroundings. Creagan Ruadh is in an outstanding position almost on the rocky shore, with otters, sea birds. sunset and sea to view from windows and close to several beautiful white sandy beaches. Would make 2 suggestions - we were a party of 5 and would have liked an extra loo and possibly shower to save the queue in the morning, and felt that the sitting room lacked a focal point such as a fireplace even if it were not for use, and were more inclined to sit socially in the very nice diningroom. Heating, hot water and kitchen appliances were excellent. Note: the roof of the house is now RED giving a very warm friendly appearance!

“We have stayed in worse - but not for some years.”

This property is very old-fashioned in the furnishings. It feels damp & is infested with woodlice. It was superficially clean but there was congealed food around the dishwasher door, food splashes on the wall by the table (I cleaned all these off); the door thresholds are very dirty, especially the back door which is almost choked with dirt. The floor linoleum in the kitchen & bathroom is badly fitted.
The only bedroom big enough to be a decent double has 3 single beds crammed in. The 2 smaller bedrooms are too small to be doubles but each has a double bed; crammed up against the wall on one side so one person has to climb over the other to get out & also cannot have a bedside table so no reading lamp or anywhere to put books, glasses etc. The very noisy washing machine is in the kitchen and the fridge is in the utility room so you have to go through the sitting room every time you need to go to the fridge - very irritating when you are cooking. There is no shaver point, no smoke alarm, no oven gloves, no corkscrew. There is no house information eg. re heating, bin collection, local facilities, emergency numbers. The location is great and the heating efficient but we can't say much else for the cottage.
