“We have stayed in worse - but not for some years.”

This property is very old-fashioned in the furnishings. It feels damp & is infested with woodlice. It was superficially clean but there was congealed food around the dishwasher door, food splashes on the wall by the table (I cleaned all these off); the door thresholds are very dirty, especially the back door which is almost choked with dirt. The floor linoleum in the kitchen & bathroom is badly fitted.
The only bedroom big enough to be a decent double has 3 single beds crammed in. The 2 smaller bedrooms are too small to be doubles but each has a double bed; crammed up against the wall on one side so one person has to climb over the other to get out & also cannot have a bedside table so no reading lamp or anywhere to put books, glasses etc. The very noisy washing machine is in the kitchen and the fridge is in the utility room so you have to go through the sitting room every time you need to go to the fridge - very irritating when you are cooking. There is no shaver point, no smoke alarm, no oven gloves, no corkscrew. There is no house information eg. re heating, bin collection, local facilities, emergency numbers. The location is great and the heating efficient but we can't say much else for the cottage.

“Fantastic cottage in idealic location”

Well equipped, clean cottage with plenty of space for family of 4 (children aged 15 & 8). The sea is just 20 metres from the cottage with lots of rock pools and rocks to scramble on as well as a small sandy patch - there are 2 other beautiful sandy beaches within less than 5 minute walk. On a clear day you can even see St Kilda from the cottage!

The cottage has the usual facilities you would expect in self- catering accommodation with a separate TV area and living room. (The TV was only switched on to watch Andy Murray win the Wimbeldon Men's final!)

The website stated towels were provided but I was informed on arrival that this apparently is not correct. Luckily I took towels for us all and we were provided with tea towels, hand towel and bath mat on request.

The RSPB nature reserve is worth visiting especially on a summers evening and it only took us 2 hours to walk there and back at a leisurely pace. Don't miss Hosta beach which is a 10 minute drive, the beaches en route to Bearneray and the little roads to places like Kallin harbour. South Uist is within very easy driving distance and do go across the causeway to Eriskay which is truly beautiful especially on a sunny day.

We would also recommend Uist Outdoor Centre for some activities (2 of us enjoyed an afternoon kayaking round Lochmaddy).
