The food, the sea views and service are outstanding at The Boat, which is the new restaurant owned by the Yao Yai Beach Resort. It is the small hotel situated 100 yards along the beach from the Santhiya Resort. You can choose to eat at the dining tables on the beach or on the lawn. It has an extensive, impressive menu and the quality of the food is exceptional. They serve beer, wine and cocktails unlike the othe beach restaurants and the staff are genuinely glad to see you. We were so impressed we ate there 3 nights running.

last summer i was in Yao Yai Resort and it was wonderful!!

It's a beautiful place with flowers everywhere and you can see the beach from your room!
The room was beautiful and very clean the housekeeping came everyday. and the bathroom was fancy. you have a television on your room above your bed. We had a family sized swimming pool.

The food was amazing! i couldn't stop eating because it was delicious. The food came very fast. the Waiters were very polite and nice. You have a lot of choices on the menu.

In the evening it was beautiful decorated with lights. And there was nice music.
The beach was beautiful. In the morning there where cute little crabs. The seawater was very warm and nice to swim in.

if i could life there i would and i will never come back :).
Next summer i would come back.

Room Tip: i would go for the grand sea the luxe

I have taken a long time to figure out exactly why i can't give Yao Yao Beach Resort anything higher than poor.

We had spent time in Bangkok (Sheraton) and Chiang Mai (B&B in the city). Those establishments were cheaper than this resort.
Fair enough, I thought, it is an island so prices are more and it might offer a lot more....
. I didn't expect:
1. No reception desk or signs saying where to go for check in, arriving at the resort you arrive on the back end of a posh resort and walk through a room that should be reception. It was a little bit off putting.
2, To have a bamboo hut smelling of mildew to the point that my friend couldn't sleep and decided to check in next door in the very impressive Santhiya resort.

Management insisted it did not smell of mildew....blamed it on the fact the hut was made of bamboo....unknown to them we had spent three nights in a Bamboo hut in the golden triangle and none of them smelt of mildew.

Our deluxe room was very spacious with a sofa bed and a lovely great big double, as a reviewer said on this site, it was something out of a 70's James Bond movie. The plunge pool was a welcome delight and used a lot.

This beach resort has no main pool

the restaurant had a lot of Santhiya guests as this restaurant has tables on the beach and cheaper prices than Santhiya.

The breakfasts are very basic and not very inspiring.

As this is an almost dry island drinks are pricey. If you like your tipple and on a budget, i recommend you buy it before you arrive on the island.
Beers can be bought from a bar on the main street coming to the resort.

the gardens are very well maintained.

The staff were friendly and always ready to help.
I had high hopes for this resort and I was left feeling very uninspired with the facilities.
There are many other places to choose from on the island.

Room Tip: ask to check the room before taking it

We stayed in a regular Fan Bungalow which wasn't prepared for us. We had to wait 2 hours someone prepared the room. In the mean time the Manager/owner? was just standing there with a bad attitude like we were the ones to blame. And it stayed like that for the coming 3 days :-(
The Bungalow was to keep us dry when it was raining and had a bed but that's about it. Nice beach but the very light breakfast and the attitude was so bad that I cannot give any good ratings for this hotel.
