Recommended length of visit: 2-3 hours
Owner description: A holiday in Jersey is not complete without a visit to Jersey War Tunnels to learn about and experience one of the most difficult periods in the Island’s history. The story of the German Occupation of Jersey is as compelling as it is strange to think that this small area of Britain was Occupied by the Nazis and forced to fly the Swastika for five dark years. The Jersey War Tunnels are no ordinary museum, they are an unforgettable experience. Dug deep into the hillside within St Peter’s Valley, the Tunnels were originally intended to be a barracks and ammunition store for the occupying forces. Today they tell the story of the Occupation, looking at how all sides coped under such extreme conditions and examining the daily dilemmas that were faced by island residents and the authorities, whether Jersey, British or German.Outside the Tunnels, you can enjoy quiet moments in the Garden of Reflection or a woodland walk along the historic War Trail. Refresh yourself in the Pantry Cafe or enjoy the shop and craft activities in LoveBird Too.

Very informative experience. We chose to read the information rather than opt for the audio headsets but had no problems as there is plenty of space for you to stop/start. Suitable for wheelchair user.

We've been here several times over the years when we've visited Jersey. On each occasion we have learned something new, and our visit yesterday was no exception. Informative, thought provoking and a real insight into the occupation during World War 2. There is so much information to take in, whether you're old or young, this is one attraction on Jersey that you really must visit.

Last visited 30 years ago when this was just the tunnels and the German hospital, now the tunnels take you through the war story with so much interesting information and visuals, well worth the entry fee

We paid for a ticket in advance and were collected from the hotel; well worth doing this. The Tunnels gave a true account of the occupation and also dispelled any myths that had arisen. As we love history, this was fascinating and very well displayed by different means, such as accounts from elderly locals who lived through this, activities for children and how the people ate and lived when supplies were cut off. There was a wheelchair. Dress warm and wear flat shoes.

My goodness where to start - allow a good 2hours to take it all in - there is a rich myriad of history presented in a very impactful, respectful and educational format, you cannot but be moved by what happened on the island. There is something for all ages although it would be respectful if little ones where a little less vocal at times. The cinematic piece at the end was very well put together. If there is a downside it is the information overload but I would highly recommend visiting. Wear warm layers, cold through by the end.
Lovely cafe for a restorative hot drink after although they need to up their game to match the steep prices being charged and tables overflowing with dirty dishes...
