I was there with my partner the first week of november, she booking this hotel and we was very lucky because the hotel is very nice and clean. And so even if november is not a good month for Samui because raining often we have a nice place for rest when cannot go to the beach, and have a good Italian restaurant in front, Mamma Roma where we go to eat good food when cannot go far..... Best hotel choose for Samui...

After arriving at the room, was a little bit unhappy as it seemed just like a normal clean hotel room with nothing special. However, after 24hours at this resort I realised that everything else about this place was excellent. Turn down service for room at night included lighting candles in bathroom, and emptying bins etc. Cleaning was immaculate and all the staff were genuinely hospitable and unobtrusively friendly.

The beach location is definately the best in Chaweng, sun beds were comfy and the sea was perfect for swimming in.

I cannot stress enough how charming this hotel is, it has a great atmosphere, and the food was delicious.

My husband, 8 year-old and I visited Koh Samui/Chaweng Beach recently and after researching hotels and surrounding areas, we chose Banana Fan Sea Resort because of its location (on the quieter side of Chewang) and reasonable pricing for a beach front room.

The pros:
Upon arriving at the airport were promptly picked up in a Banana Fan Sea air-conditioned van. The drive to the hotel is 15-20 minutes maximum. We received a lovely cold welcome drink and towels in the beautiful reception area. After a quick check-in, we were shown to our room. We stayed in Room 327 of the resort - it has sea views and is merely steps from the beach and the pool (about 10 to be more precise). The room itself was spacious and beautiful and there was a sleeper sofa/futon for our daughter which was quite comfortable. A wonderful buffet breakfast at the resort restaurant, Baitong, was included in our rate. Very tasty. Also, there were several Banana Fan Sea employees attending to you and making sure your coffee cup was filled and to ask if your stay in the restaurant and the resort was pleasant. There was plenty of sunlounges available near the pool as well as on the beach...however, we were there at the start of low season, so I'm not sure how feral it might get during high season. Beach towels were provided at the pool and you could sign in and out for as many as you needed during the day. We did eat lunch one day at the Baitong restaurant and it was lovely.

The cons:
The resort pool closes at 7pm every night in order for the restaurant to begin its dinner service in which tables/buffet and entertainment is usually served poolside. Speaking of entertainment, the resort restaurant, Baitong, does have almost-nightly entertainment (Thai duo singing, Cabaret dancing, Thai dancing, etc.) which begins at 8pm and lasts through 10-10:30pm or so. Because our room was located so near to the pool area , we were serenaded almost nightly with Madonna, Johnny Cash and other classics courtesy of the duo singing and if the duo wasn't singing live, there was background music to hear. We did talk to hotel management and mentioned the music was a bit loud and they did their best to try to turn down the mics, but unfortunately it was nowhere near enough. And don't even try to sleep on Saturday nights there, we were awake until 3am listening to thumping dance music coming from the Monkey Bar located down the street from the hotel.

I understand it's not the Banana Fan Sea's fault that there is such loud music coming from a bar down the street, but when it begins to disrupt guests (especially guests with children), they are going to run into some problems. A Sunday night was the only quiet night we were there.

Every morning during our stay, we did consider changing hotel, but then we would have a leisurely breakfast at the restaurant and lounge around the pool or the beach all day. After a few hours of relaxation, we were too far into "holiday mode" to bother looking at other hotels and we would convince ourselves that the oncoming evening would be quieter. As much as we liked the hotel, the staff and its offerings, I don't think we would stay there again because of the noise. If you like dinner shows/entertainment then this may be the hotel for you.

If anyone is planning a trip to Kho Samui I can absolutley recommend the Banana Fan Sea Resort. It is perfectly positioned in the centre of Chaweng beach. I had read a prevvious review that suggested the resort was too far way from the bars and clubs. The comment was true but this wasn't a concern as there were great bars located nearby and if we wanted to go the top end of the strip then a taxi ride was only 150 Baht ($4.00 Aus). It is so close to great restaraunts, shopping, and the big Thai boxing stadium. We were a large family of six, three children ages 2, 5 and 13, my wife and my Mum. We stayed in rooms 328/329 which has great beach front views coupled with a private deck and spa (Jaccuzi). The rooms are very nice and the service was very good. The beach outside the resort was absolutely fantastic. The water temp was so warm and the clear. The pool was children friendly, but make sure you secure the deck chairs early in the morning because once you secure your chair you keep it all day regardless if you use it. If you are keen on great food then my advice to you is simple, 'Don't judge a book by it's cover'. Ninja Crepes restaraunt which is about one minute walk from the resort may look like a shack, but let me tell you the food is something to try and the price is unbelievable. My wife and I ate five dishes with 4 bottles of large Singa Beer (630 ml) and it cost us 455 baht ($15.00 Aus). Dinner for the whole family including drinks was about 1100 Baht (36.00 Aus). It is so popular that we had to wait in line for a table. If you desire something more romantic and on the beach then Eat Sense Restaurant (next to Banana Fan Sea Resort) and Betel Nut (next to Eat sense) provides first class food which will cost about 2500 -3000 Baht. ($80.00- $100.00 Aus) including drinks for 6 people. If you like shopping then you will be in your element. Make sure you bater at least half of the first price given, even go below half. We found the Indian shop traders less likley to bater but the Thai's very keen to sell you something. Once agin you will be astounded by the prices. A tip for travelling, pack light and buy you clothes there. There are great tours around the island including elephant trekking and island hopping to Koh Tao and Koh Nangyuan where you can go snorkling. We travelled for 13 days which included 3 nights Bangkok (nice to see once) and 9 nights at Kho Samui at a cost of (2400.00 Aus) spending for 5 people which included tours, shopping (we had to purchase another suitcase to bring back the shopping), banana boat rides, daily massages on the beach, food, drink, taxi's and VIP seats at the Thai Boxing . My only warning to English speaking travellers in Kho Samui is beware of the Absolute Holiday scammers. They generally work together in pairs and constantly ride the strip on a moped targeting Aussies and Kiwis with no kids. They get you to rub of a game card which always results in one person getting three stars even though they claim about the three stars being a one in 10,000 card which rewards them with a 10,000 baht bonus. They then tell you that you have won a guaranteed prize which consists of one of the following; a lap top computer, video camera, $1000.00 US, a Boat Cruise or a Dream holiday. But the catch is you have to go to and see what Absolute Holidays has to offer. They say that it will take 90 minutes with a guaranteed prize regardless of what you decide. This is a time sharing scam, even though they purport to be travel agents who will look after all your travel needs just as long as you pay a memberships which is costly. The prize you get at the end of about 3 hours of listening to their sales pitch is a dream holiday to Kho Samui, Pattaya or Phuket (airfares not included) which is wrapped up in so much red tape you actually get nothing. Always rember, you never get anything for nothing'. Putting that last bit aside, I recommend Kho Samui and the Banana Fan Sea as a must see holiday destination.

The hotel sits on a quiet little stretch of Chaweng Rd and is not in Bophut as the address would suggest. Head out of the very nice lobby and onto Chaweng Rd and turn left for South Chaweng and right for the more commercial (Magaluf like) Boom Boom Soi Mango. Or, better still head out onto the beach front swing left and take in a few drinks, cocktails and some chilled out beach house music in the many bars and hotels.
We booked this well in advance after alot of looking at reviews. We opted for the pool view deluxe room #206, superb what a result. Great little balcony with aview of the pool restraunt and sea. Decor was nice and the bathroom spot on, as was the shower.
The staff were superb from the front desk/reception staff to the excursion lady and even the gardener. The pick of the staff was Meow who greeted us every morning for breakfast with her fantastic manor and smile. We used the restraunt for dinner two nights and it was great. the presentation and quality was some of the best we come accross during our time in Thailand. Slightly higher price than other off site restraunts but the service and setting was awesome. We also used it daily for poolside snacks and drinks. The pool is very nice as is the beach which is probably the best stretch of sand along Chaweng. Make sure you take in a massage as you watch/listen to the ocean.
Would is stay again, without a dout if Chaweng was on my list. However after moving on to Bophut for our last six nights in the Baan Bophut hotel the more low key Fishermans Village would take the spoils.
Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
