This was my first trip to Koh Samui having traveled extensively throughout Thailand and Asia. This was a great location for Cheweng beach. The southern end of Chaweng beach is a bit nicer than the norther end because when there is a low tide the northern section has a bit of exposed reef and flats while the southern end is still swimmable. The entire island is very accessible by scooter bike so location to restaurants, bars, and other beaches were not a big concern. Chaweng is very touristy and built up along beach road with beach front resorts taking up all of the beach front. There is no problem accessing the beach from the Mecure through a small old resort across the street. I was a bit apprehensive at first doing this but there are no issues. There is a reggae bar there you can hang out at and have beers on the beach.
The Pros: price, excellent value for the money, modern room, great bathroom, great aircon, not noisy, slept very well and comfortable. The pool area can be very relaxing in the morning as long as you ask them to turn down the teeny bobber pop music being piped into the pool area, it overshadows the sound of the water fountain and serenity which the pool area provides, great ambiance in the morning calm for early risers.
The Cons: very limited TV channel selection in the room. The swimming pool is too small for laps and the number of guests at the hotel.
