This place was amazing - mezzanine floors and heaps of space in a renovated mill. The owners were wonderfully welcoming and the place was spotless. The rooms are a little unusual in their setup so you might want to check this out if there are a group of you. The middle room has no bathroom and the room we stayed in has a fairly open bathroom so if you're sharing you need to be friendly! The other section has a private bathroom though.
The outdoor area was just as gorgeous as inside with vines, flowers and a table overlooking the river and small valley. Wonderful!
With the eminent closure of Holden's manufacturing in Elizabeth, we decided to make the run across from Sunbury, VIC for the Holden Dream Cruise on October 15th, 2017. Rather than your average, garden variety accommodation in the Adelaide 'burbs, we decided to hunt around the B&B's on Trip Advisor. The criteria though was that we'd need somewhere that was sympathetic to a car nuts needs and in this instance, a) a place to wash off 800km worth of insects and b) somewhere safe, off-street to park.
One email to Dean & Julie was all that was needed, with a thumbs-up for both. In fact, Dean went above & beyond, having hose, bucket, sponges, car-wash and a space under the carport ready for us when we arrived late on the Saturday, with about 30 minutes of daylight left for a quick tub & spruce-up before the big cruise on Sunday morning.
So Dean had me at "hello" with the car-wash. Talk about accommodating! He'd even moved his boat from the lock-up so i could park inside, even though i'd chose to bed my machine down for the night next to his beautifully maintained VW Combi under the carport outside our lounge room window.
But then came the kicker. While I washed down the SV88, Dean had helped Kerree take the bags to our lodgings for the weekend and I knew we'd made the right choice when Kerree came back with an ear to ear grin and a simple "oh, the room's just beautiful". And she wasn't kidding.
Charming & tasteful beyond reproach, it had everything you could want from the essentials to the trimmings, including a delightful sparkling Pinot Rose & strawberries in the fridge, fresh yoghurt, juice, fresh bread....the list goes on.
We initially were going to drive into Lobethal or another local town for a meal but the more we looked at our room the more we thought why would you want to leave to go out for tucker? So instead we cooked a hearty bacon, tomato & eggs on toast for dinner and chose from the variety of breakfast cereals or porridge for our very early brekky, as we had an early start for the cruise. It was perfect!
The decor & detail in all the rooms is clearly from the heart for these hosts and the space is used in a very clever, practical & beautiful manner, from the sunken kitchen & bathroom level, the mid-level lounge with the cosy wood heater and the jewel in the crown; the staircase up to the bedroom loft, complete with king-size bed.
Soft furnishings with throw rugs, flowers & subtle tones magnificently contrasted by the rugged & rustic original stone walls of the mill. They've done such a wonderful job with this stunning old building and are proud to talk about the history and how they came to own it.....and rightly so.
So if you're looking for a place away from the crowds & noise for a romantic getaway.....or if you're looking to do a road-trip to the Birdwood Motor Museum (which we sadly didn't have time for this weekend), you'd be hard pressed to find anything better that this. We couldn't recommend Randells's Mill B&B highly enough. We'll be back and probably with a group of friends, to take advantage of the Mill's "ballroom" and other rooms. It's so versatile and every other part of the accommodation is no less delightful.
Congratulations Dean & Julie. Truly living the dream!
Warmest regards: Helmut & Kerree
We stayed in the Loft during the Winter Reds wine festival. The setting is beautiful, next to a small river with large gums and lovely little courtyard garden. The Loft itself is perfectly set up with everything you could possibly want or need provided for. A fire place, candles scattered throughout, fairy lights and two person spa add to the romantic ambiance. Here you can truly shut out the rest of the world and just enjoy each other.
My partner and I got a room here for the night and I wish we had time to stay longer. We felt so welcomed from the moment we arrived. Our room was beyond amazing, full of character, spotless, stylish and instantly comfortable teamed with the most beautiful views! I could not recommend This place higher and we cannot wait to come back!!!
A stunning renovation has turned this historic mill into a very special B&B. The gardens are just serene and the house is full of charm and very tastefully decorated with a nod to the past. Our hosts Julie and Dean were warm and welcoming and full of recommendations of what to do in the local area. There are a number of different sleeping arrangements for varying numbers of parties and are very comfortably appointed. We would recommend this B&B to anyone looking for a break from the rat race.
