“Charming property which is well Located”

Charming property which was well maintained, clean and well equipped. Location achieved that nice blend of being rural and quiet yet close enough to amenities to make the day to day practicalities (morning trip for baguettes, milk etc.) very achievable.

Downstairs was both comfortable and well thought through in terns of space, layout and facilities. Although potentially appearing 'cosy' from the photo for our family of four (2 adults & 2 teenagers) we had absolutely no problem. The enclosed garden was a real bonus and many a breakfast and evening meal was spent out in the sunshine enjoying the rural setting, where breakfast was occasionally shared with one or two very friendly chickens - a real positive for families with children.

The property was located quite close to La Roche-Bernard which was a charming little spot to amble around (artist's quarter, and harbour) with some great places to eat that won't break the bank, yet offering lovely views of the boats and old streets.

The owner was absolutely charming and wonderfully helpful - exhibiting that rare quality of being there when needed but also leaving you well alone to enjoy the pleasures of Brittany. Although the owners' property was located next door, the orientation of the properties was such as to provide near total privacy.

All in all, great value for money, offering comfort and charm and well placed for exploring South Brittany.

“Excellent hostess, lovely gite , nice location”
Reviewed 9 December 2013 for a stay in April 2013

We stayed at Les Chenes in April 2013 and had a lovely time . We travelled with young children and Melaney was very thoughtful in providing detailed directions from our entry point in france (which was port of Calais) to the Gite as the sat nav can take take you somewhere else if you input the address- this is common problem in France as the small roads are not yet inputted into the maps. We resolved it by reaching the address as per Melaney's instructions and then adding the location amongst favourites in the sat-nav to help us in our local journeys. The Gite is part of the farmhouse where Mel lives and yet it is not at all overlooked and is very private with its own entrance. The interiors are well maintained and we were surprised to note the renovation project was completed by Mel's husband- the before and after photos are amazing. The Gite is self sufficient and has a lovely wood fire (wood provided on request)with open plan living downstairs including a fully fitted kitchen and two double bedrooms and bath upstairs. The gite is well stocked with games to keep the children entertained, books and DVDs. On arrival we had a basket of local bread, fruit and juices and Mel supplied us with eggs from her farm and they were simply delicious! Our children were very happy playing with the farm animals including the adorable Margot who was very child friendly and didn't complain when the kids had a ride on her. The chickens and the 2 lovely dogs kept the kids well entertained. Mel is an excellent hostess and provided ample information on local sightseeing- the visitors book in the gite is not only a testament to all the travellers who had a lovely time in the property but a treasure trove of information on what to do while you are in the region ! Families have recorded their local trips in detail which we found very helpful while planning our sight seeing trips. The gite is situated in a village and the rural surroundings are very soothing to someone planning a relaxing holiday. Day trips can be planned to Guerande and we went upto St.Malo and St.Michels mount. We had a good time during our stay and Mel was very thoughtful and gave us a selection of local plants and herbs during our departure. Thumbs up from us.
