“We had a very comfortable, relaxing and enjoyable week”

The house is in a lovely setting with a great pool and poolside area. It is well-equipped and was clean and tidy on arrival. The BBQ is excellent too - modern gas one. It is on the edge of a pretty village which has an exceptionally good restaurant within a hotel just a short walk away. Ribérac isn't far away and it's a good base from which to explore the Dordogne. We would definitely consider coming back.

We have just got back from a super holiday. Weather was was very hot. The accommodation is of a very high standard, the pool is very large and very clean. I will be booking again for next year. We also had a small dog which also had a great time as there is a lot of room around the villa.

“Best ever holiday - brilliant value!”

We stayed for a week from 18-8-12 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We are a family of four and would have to say this was one of our best holidays together, as the house, the superb and clean pool, the beautiful surrounding area plus of course the fantastic weather all played their part.

The house "Simon" is well equiped with everything anyone would need, with the washing machine being particular useful - remember washing powder & conditioner. Washing line provided. In addition, all bathroom towels and sunbed towels are provided, which helps.

The BBQs (gas or charcoal) make alfresco cooking easy.

It is true that the house temperature can rise during the day, but as long as you shut the shutters and use the fans provided (during the day) all will be OK. The fans may also be required at night, but this did not create a sleep problem for any of us as they can be run at a lower fan speed.

The surrounding area was very quiet and rural, we would recommend the Hotel restaurant in the St-Paul-Lizonne village, as the outdoor dining is great. Book 2 days in advance to get a table.

On another practical level, the Spar shop at Saint Santienne should forfill all your needs, they also understand English.

During our stay we also visited the caves at Villars about 50 mins from S-P-Lizonne, (7.50 euros per adult) which were great. Although the guided tour was in French, a useful English crib sheet was provided. A must see - take a fleece as it's a bit chilly. It opens at 10am, but go early to avoid the queues.

We also visited Aubeterre as featured in the house book, a nice half day out. Go and see the underground church (5 euros each). Take some time to walk around the town and see the church on the hill. Stop at the market square for a coffee / wine (they speak English).

Just down from the house there is a 18 hole crazy golf course owned now by an Englishman (for the last 3 months). It's a bit pricey at 6 euros per person, but a good laugh for an hour. After this, go to the cafe opposite for some crepes etc. Ask about the house special - if it's the spagetti bolognaise then go for it, it's lovely. Don't forget a sweet too but make sure you saved enough room for them.

Finally, all the above was for a very reasonable price, so what's to complain about? Nothing.

“HOT!”
Reviewed 4 August 2012 for a stay in July 2012

Concur with all the positive comments and agree the owners have thought of it all - clean, welcoming, bright and airy and honour system is refreshing! BUT

As always in France we were blessed with good weather (mid 30’s) so made good use of the pool! The house is well equipped only it is noisy - if someone is sleeping the other cannot do much due to the noise carried.

Unfortunately the house is so hot. No matter which way we tried the heat would not lift at any time day or night and the fans were moving warm air around and added to the noise level so even more difficult to get to sleep - think we only managed average of 4 hours each night!! Geraldine (the owner) confirmed they previously did have AC units, but, people left them on 24 / 7 , with the door opened and the elec bills were out of control - think without AC the charge for this house is excessive!

The pool is FABULOUS, unfortunately the views were lost as all the trees and hedges and overgrown with the rain and sun!

In all - the weather and the pool out-weigh any complaints
