We have just spent 3 nights in the Mas de Fanny in Chantemerle les Grignan, and I feel compelled to warn other travellers about this place. We paid 185 euros per night for a room without a window - yes, that's NO window in the middle of Provence, in July... I had made an early booking (in January) and asked for a nice spacious room with garden, and given that it is part of the Chateaux Hotels Collection, we thought we would treat ourselves...we got a patch outside alright, but that opened up directly onto reception and the restaurant! So if you wanted some air in the room, you had to open the door and listen to the noisy restaurant (not easy with a 2½ yrs old toddler
- trying to sleep in the banged up cot provided). However, we didn't even mention the room as we didn't want to make relationships worse, and friends were staying there as well, but our stay was further spoiled by the very rude attitude of the hotel manageress (possibly the worst hostess I have ever encountered). She was rude with all guests (we stayed with 2 other couples and even other guests were exchanging stories about her remarks daily). There were numerous incidents. She even explained that they didn't have any rating stars (which we didn't notice in the brochures), as this would mean keeping up with certain standards and they weren't prepared to do this. In summary, this is a rural gite (with nice pool and breakfast to be fair), but not up to the chateaux hotel standards, grossly overpriced and ruined by the manageress' apparent dislike of guests. Do not go there.
