Clean lodging, but lukewarm ambiance

Review of Edel Warme
3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 3 Jan 2018via mobile
Visited the hotel in mid December. Checking in and out was a breeze. Rooms are clean. The lounge area is dark and sad looking. There are some beverages, self service n free, but the range is limited. There's a fire place but that is it. Another hotel nearby (N**wald) puts in more effort, offering marshmallows and snacks (free) for guests to roast over the fire place, facilitating a lot of interactions amongst guests. Here, it's just one dark area with furniture from the 80s.

The hotel claims to have coin laundry service, but it's not so. The laundry service is actually a public one diagonally across the street. There's no indication or direction to the laundry place. It's actually a yellow house (pls see the attached pictures) that's open to anyone on the street. Wouldn't have booked rooms here if I had known I had to lug my laundry (for 5 pax) and walk 15 minutes in wintry conditions. The staff claimed it was a 2-3 minute walk.

I guess if one is just looking for a roof over his head, this place is ok.

We had an interesting start to our stay at Edel Warme. I had accidentally double booked our stay for our first night and we only discovered this when we arrived at the hotel. Iwasaki-San swiftly made a call to hotels.com and sorted out the situation for us. Without hesitation, he said that he would cancel one of the nights and waive the cancellation fee which should have been 80% of the first night. This was such a kind gesture as we were the one's to make the mistake. Admittedly his English wasn't very good but he contacted a translator who explained everything very clearly.

The hotel itself is quite dated in terms of furnishings but clean and fully equipped with necessary amenities. The indoor public onsen bath was fantastic and not crowded in terms of use, I found myself alone most of the time. There is also ample parking without any extra charge.

All in all, I would recommend staying at Edel Warme for a well priced hotel with attentive service.

Bad! I do not have another description. The room is a bit dated. It’s okay, but the staff here were completely incompetent and irresponsible!

Because we went to furano with our kid, we have bring our own bed cover, blanket and pillow for her. We stay in this hotel for 2 consecutive nights. We left these stuff on the bed on the second day and then we went out. When we returned, all these bedding stuff were placed on our opened suitcase, with some of the surface touching the floor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is totally unacceptable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We brought our own bedding because we wanted to ensure the cleanliness for our kid. We then went to the reception to complain the next morning (because when we returned to the room it was too late night), but the reception staff cannot communicate in English at all!!!!!!!!!!! This is really unbelievable for a hotel reception staff in the tourist district! She used the google translate to communicate with me, by typing Japanese and then let me read the English google translation on the computer screen. What is worse is that since we cannot communicate with the reception staff at all (she should be able to understand the incident because I showed her the photos, but she was unable to speak a simple English word to respond, not even a “sorry”). I left my email address to her and ask her to inform her manager to contact me to follow up. She promised to do so but up till now, over 10 days passed, no one contact me.

A big “NO” for this hotel, taken into account their staff quality, responsiveness, and cleanliness.

My friends & I had stayed for 2 nights. Hotel is quiet, even though there're activities for school children to stay in on 2nd day but the sound proof of the rooms are pretty good. Reception space is pretty big with a warming area. A small souvenir store is located next to reception. Receptionists are attentive, very helpful with limited English & always smiling.

Room: It is pretty big for 4 single beds to be in. It is equipped with some chairs, table, lamp, bedside tables, tv (which we didn't switch it on), wardrobe with some slippers (including those for onsen use, kettle & ryokans. The bed is pretty comfortable & it only has one pillow. Additional pillow will be provided upon requested. Bedsheets are clean. Carpeted floor but it feels clean upon walking in it without staining my soles. Room temperature is pretty good but slight unventilated during a spring-summer season. Windows are dirty but able to view scenery though it & can't be open. Fridge was small but able to fill up some snacks that we had bought.

Bathroom: Clean and equipped with shower amenities. Provided with a hair dryer as well. I patronised the onsen instead of the bathroom as it was small. My friend used it instead.

Food: A restaurant but did not patronised.

Onsen: It was great. Highlight of the stay I felt. Went in the early morning about 7am & evening about 9pm, rarely see anyone. Opening hours are long so able to visit it anytime. Onsen has 2 pools, temperature is more tolerable to me in the smaller one. Loads of shower heads available with Shiseido shower gels & shampoo. Stools for adults/children are available. A higher stool are available for elderly or disabled use. Hair dryer, facial care gels are available at the dry area. Have to bring down your own towel to the onsen. Toilets are available outside the onsen as well.

Location: It's a few km to ski resorts. A few convenience store & marts down the street. A park is nearby about 5 mins run away. Central Furano is a few km away, driving will be advised.

Activities/Shopping: Furano cheese factory is nearby but do check with the local opening time. Otherwise, the other attractions are a few hours drive or less than an hour.

The receptionist handled the whole hotel's requests so do take note if they are a little late when they reaches your room. There're no bell boys but lifts are available to travel up & down. A few stairs are available as well.

Arrived pretty late in the evening but it was still a pleasant experience. Hotel front counter staff were welcoming. Pointed me to the 7 Eleven which I could get to by foot for some quick supplies and told me onsen was available as part of the room...until 11pm. The onsen was decent...2 pools. one of which was pretty hot.

We stayed here for about 9 nights, with a couple of other groups of friends. This hotel is located in the Kitanomine zone of the Furano ski fields. This is important if you are skiing at Furano, as Furano town itself is a long way from the ski field and we were within 200m of the goldola at Edel Warme hotel.
The best thing about the hotel is that they have a shuttle for the 200m to the gondola (which we used every morning as it was uphill all the way) or to Furano ski zone if you want. Also the shuttle from Sapporo pulled up at the hotel's doorstep so no lugging bags & skis.
The other good thing was they had an excellent breakfast included in the room rate, including both Japanese and Western foods, both ample and good quality and the menu changed from one day to the next. Bonus!
The hotel was also centrally located with numerous bars & restaurants located close by which was handy as the weather was freezingly cold all week. The hotel did dinner's but we ate out all week.
The rooms were larger than we had been expecting for Japanese hotels, but with the usual pre-moulded bath. However almost all our bathing was done in the Onsen which is located in the basement of the hotel. We used it every day as did a large number of other guests. However the normal rules of no clothing for the Onsens applied (both male and female), so if you're shy you'll need to use your shower.
In the large communal lounge room there was a huge fireplace where guests could mingle at the end of the day swapping stories, and you were able to bring your own beer, wine and snacks to this area to relax. This was great as we chatted to all the other skiers every night before heading out for dinner, and the hotel provided all the glasses and cleaned up after us. My only complaint about this area was that there was not enough firewood to make the fire do anything more than gently smoke, which detracted from the atmosphere and made the room smoky. Maybe the hotel needs to be a bit more generous with its wood supply as its a lovely gathering area.

The staff were excellent, while not all could speak english there was always someone on duty who was a good english speaker so no problems there, and nothing was a problem.
The other thing we noticed was that many of the guests had returned for many years, and if I go back to Furano I will return to Edel Warme as well.
