Stayed here three nights. Rustic, not fancy but very clean and functional. Was greeted at check-in by the owner who attended all of our needs & questions. Bungalow was decent size, large but simple bathroom. Nice swimming pool area to relax by. Food was great and plentiful. I will repeat this is not a fancy place to relax at, it is a lodge in the jungle that serves as a base camp for jungle adventures. Well managed and highly recommended.

Room Tip: we had bungalow 13 - nice & quite

We visited in April 2016 with my partner and his grandparents. The accommodation was very clean and comfortable. The huts had a lot of privacy and made you feel like you were part of the rainforest. Each hut at a relaxing hammock and the front of each property did not face each other giving you the feeling that you were peacefully isolated in the rainforest.

The food at every meal was locally sourced, delicious and large in portion. We thoroughly enjoyed every meal and the fresh juice provided. We always looked forward to breakfast, lunch and dinner. Mayra the chef was excellent and very attentive as was Saul.

The best part of our holiday was going on the rainforest walks. As we went in low season we were the only guests. Pedro was a fantastic tour guide his english was excellent, he was very knowledgeable and taught us so much about how the tribes live. The walk was very educational. Rafael was also an excellent guide very passionate about his culture. The stories of history, culture and life in the rainforest is something I have taken home to my family and friends in London.

The lodge made us feel at home and the staff went over and above what was expected. We sought to purchase cocoa beans and they were able to deliver this the morning of our departure. They were also able to offer and accommodate tours other than rainforest for guests who did not want to participate in long and challenging walks.

Huasquila lodge is the perfect place to get away from the busy city life and to take a moment to be at one with nature. I would definitely return to visit again.

Huasquila provides a unique, interesting experience, but I thought it was important to write a review to ensure people are aware of the experience you will get. While my husband and I enjoyed a chance to learn about the local culture and see some interesting plants and animals, we weren't prepared for how rustic it would be. I've traveled to some adventurous places, but this was a bit too much for my husband and I. We actually left a day early (without a refund) because we decided we would rather spend more time in Quito.

The drive from Quito is 4 hours of windy roads and the roads are prone to landslides. By the time we got to the lodge, my husband was very car sick. On the way back to Quito, it took an extra hour because we had to wait for the road to be cleared after a landslide.

The activities were mostly hikes, which require mud boots and we spent a lot of the hikes focused on watching our footing to avoid slipping. At one point, we were walking through knee high water in a cage full of bats. Make sure that you have packed appropriately for the mud and water. We were soaking wet for much of that hike and asked our guide a couple times to shorten the hike, but he was so excited to show us more that he kept going.

The people were very friendly and the food was good. The rooms were simple, but nice. There were some bugs inside, but that's to be expected in a place like this.

QHowever, we would have enjoyed it much more if the lodge had given us a heads up on what to expect, what to pack, etc. Based on the itineraries and reviews, we were expecting a trip that would let us experience the Amazon in a bit more low key way. I am sure this is the right experience for many people, but just make sure Huasquila fits what you are looking for.

Dear guest,

Thank you very much for your review.
At Huasquila we have a policy to empower local native people in running all aspects of the lodge (from cooking, guiding to running the recepction), since we are convinced that they can do a great job.
Language and cultural differences however, although your guide Lenin was fluent in english, are still sometimes a communicational barrier and we truly apologize for this.
End of May and beginning of June we have had strong rainfall, which has led to some minor landslides on the way to the entire amazon and also to the paths being a lot muddier than usual. Usually the water in the cave goes only up to the ankles, but the rains in the time you visited were very strong.
We will be more careful to explain about the weather conditions and advise you more carefully of the options you have, in case weather conditions become more difficult.
We are very sorry you missed the chocolate session at the lodge and also other closeby options which are a lot easier like the visit to a animal rescue center close by or a Tena city tour.
Our manager has explained that he had offered a refund for the last night you left early (Our policy is always to have happy guests), however he had understood that you did not want it, since you still had a great time. Please let us know if this was a misunderstanding and we will process your refund immediately.
Thanks again for taking the time to write a review. All the best!

We stayed here for three nights as part of a package trip. The grounds are very beautiful with trails to a cave and waterfalls. The rooms are very comfortable. The staff was so kind, especially our guide and driver. The food was plentiful and quite good. Wifi in the restaurant area but was able to get some connection in the room.

Great value for money in a fantastic location. We stayed for a long weekend and also used the driver, who was friendly and drove sensibly (something of a rarity in Ecuador). Staff were helpful, and happy to explain the different trips and helping us to arrange other semi-independent trips. Our room was lovely with a little balcony and hammock that looked out into the forest. The room was also (mostly) bug free, which was pretty impressive considering the location.
