“Great Hotel”
Reviewed 13 August 2006

We last stayed at The Ola Maioris in October 2003 for a week .
Unfortunately the weather was horrible which dampened our overall enjoyment. I was pleased with the hotel, though.

This time we stayed for 2 weeks in July 2006 and the weather was fantastic, 30 degrees plus every day.

We had hired a car for the 2 weeks to go exploring and to do a bit of shopping.

The hotel is a about 20 minutes from Palma Airport and I would recommend hiring a car as the hotel is in a quiet developing part of Puig de Ross.

There is no beach near the hotel although there is a free bus every morning to take you to the sandy beaches of Arenal about 10 minutes away. The bus picks you up at about 5pm to take you back to the hotel. The hotel is also handy for the Aqualand water park (5 minutes drive)..

You can also walk from the hotel for about 10 minutes and take a winding road down to the sea which has amazing views.

You need to be fit though as the road IS steep and you may need oxygen on the way up.

The hotel has had a paint job since we were last there and is now teracotta and not white as shown in the medhotels brochure but no worse off for that.

The hotel foyer is well presented and clean and the reception staff friendly and helpful.

Our room was spacious and cleaned every day with fresh towels daily and bed linen changed every 3 to 4 days.

We were all inclusive ( I think everybody else was, too) and had the obligatory wristbands. The restaurant is bright and clean although there are quite a lot of tables packed into it. During the restaurants peak time it was difficult getting a table (particularly if you have 4 or 5 in your party) as the waiters sometimes struggled to cope with the numbers of diners. The solution was to go early. In fairness to the hotel they had addressed this towards the end of our stay by limiting the amount of diners entering the restaurant during busy times.

The food was good, too. There was a cold buffet as well as hot food. There was always soup, fish ,pasta and chips. The meats varied between beef, lamb, chicken and pork cooked in a variety of ways and our food was always hot. On occasion there was also paella and serrano ham which I like and would have enjoyed more often. For dessert there was always fresh fruit, ice cream, lovely gateaus, pastries etc. Our kids enjoyed the variety. Drinks were self service including red, white and rose wine and beer and soft drinks.

You could also order a packed lunch from reception for the next day if you planned to go out and about. The packed lunch had rolls, butter, jam, pate , cold meat, yoghurt and bottled water.

There are 2 swimming pools and one small toddlers pool which were cleaned regularly. Drinks taken at the bar during the day were served in plastic cups to avoid broken glass. At night time drinks were served in glasses and the all inclusive service stopped at 11pm and after that you had to pay.

There was a kids club which our children enjoyed immensely and the entertainment staff were really good with the children. There was also a variety of activities organised throughout the day for adults such as darts, shooting, football, water polo, volleyball, etc.

We never stayed for the evening entertainment and instead went in the car to Arenal or Palma so I can't comment on it.

There were an equal number of French, Germans and Britons and the hotel catered to us all . There was the inevitable reserving of loungers by the pool area and you had to get up really early to get a good spot or one with an umbrella. However, on our last day I noticed management had put up signs stating there would be no access to the pool area until 7.30 am to stop people reserving sun loungers. Whether this worked I don't know...

Our family had a great time and I would definitely come back again. This hotel is best for families.

The best piece of advice I can give you is to hire a car and book it before you arrive as it will save you £££s..

“Don't Go Here - It is Awful!!!!!”
Reviewed 12 August 2006

Went on a cruise and stay holiday with Island Cruises on board the island star. Cruise was great.

Our stay was in the supposedly 4 * AI Maioris hotel.

Food - All food was cold, it was a free-for-all to get a table which were often still not cleared from previous guests, chicken was undercooked (still pink). Obvious signs of leftovers from lunch or breakfast being used for dinner dishes. If you don't like pork forget it!!

AI Snacks - Crisps, cakes, cold meats left in the open all day surrounded by flies. The choice is yours.

AI Drinks - Small plastic cups during day, huge queues during evening.

Accomadation - Grubby rooms, Ants on floor in bathroom and bedroom, food smell from restuarant/kitchen below, drainage smell from toliet area. A/C was goo though. Watch your balcony door which will lock you out if you shut it whilst on the balcony (you would like to shut it as is turns the A/C off when you leave it a jar!). TV channels no english speaking except EUROsport.

Facilities - Reception/enterainment area not air conditioned. It was so hot and humid in there, you choice was outside or in your room.

Swimming pool - over crowded, beds and chairs dangerously close to pool, 1 small child fell in during the evening and was rescued by 3 men who had to dive in in their clothes.
Sun beds were all reserved by 8:00am. Fire doors leading to the pool were locked until 7:30 to prevent reserving, this just led to a queue of 25 people at the doors armed with their towels every morning.

Entertainment - Not suitable for adults or english. Hotel mainly German and Dutch. Entertainment was very basic boarding on 'made up on the spot'

Please don't just think this is me. We were with another 71 guests off the cruise who went to this hotel, all of which had the same complaints. We were not expecting cruise liner levels of luxury and entertainment but we were expecting 4 * accomadation, food and facilities. We did find that all other english guests in this hotel had booked internet specials to here for circa £300, which I suppose is not bad, but when you are paying over £3,500 for a cruise and stay this is certainly not what you expect.

First Choice were the operators of the stay part of the cruise and have really let down Island Cruises in this accomadation. We all bar 2 people (out of the 71) were placed into alternative accomodation after just 2 nights. The alternative we went to was the SOL BARBADOS/ ANTILLIS. This is what you would expect a spanish 4 * to be (not at English levels but was great hotel and would return there).

please do not go here unless you get a very cheap deal and maybe go out of season when the hotel's facilities can cope with the number of guests.

“excellent holiday”
Reviewed 31 July 2006

the maioris was clean very quiet food excellent great choice of menu no sign of rats or any vermin etc tv not very good as only 2 english channels eg eurosport and cnn news.
entertainment very very good all staff very friendly and helpful.
rooms very comfy with air conditioning.
arenal about 10 mins by bus witch you catch outside the hotel and cost just 1euro 10 cents or a taxi between 9 and 14 euros
beach very clean water quite shallow for a long way out lots of fish in the sea very close to the beach shops quite cheap meals out seem very expensive.
taxi to and from the airport 26 euros each way if you want to buy cigs or tobacco you have to go to a tobacconist you cant buy cigs anywhere else except for a cig machine in some bars.
at palma airport expect a 30 min or so walk to get to the baggage claim area all in all excellent holiday going again next year.
good luck to you all

“Not bad but very quiet”
Reviewed 17 July 2006

Just returned with my wife after a weeks stay. We got a really good deal on this holiday and i am glad we did as if i had paid what a number of people had, i would have been very upset. There was a good selection of food but was the same most days and like the last reviewer said was luke warm. Agree with the las review in trhe fact that there are a lot of germans ans the sunbed thing was annoying. Entertainment very poor and no where near 4 star standard. Snack bar was none existent and the same everyday (cheese, salami, rolls & stale crisps) Pool & Hotel was very clean and fresh towels everyday. Balcony lights went out at 11pm everyday so couldnt sit out if you wanted. Good choice of alcohol and soft drinks. Nothing in the local area other than a small supermarket and an excellent Italian restaurant which we took too for a change ofd environment and some hot tasty food. Overall, I would not go again but if you have children then they will love it as they are entertained all day. If you can get this for a cheap price then go for it but be warned!

“Definately not 4 star”
Reviewed 10 July 2006

Just returned from a last minute week at the hotel maioris and all in all my husband and I had a nice holiday. representing good value for money but definately not what we would consider 4 star- 2, maybe 3 at best
I wouldn't advise you to go if you :-
*Don't have children- it is definately a family orientated hotel and there is no escape at night unless you get a taxi for the 16k + round trip into Arenal
*Want to be surrounded by other british holiday makers- there are definately more German here than anything else which would probably be the reason why all the sun beds are reserved by 9am in the morning! (everyone else joins in with the if you cant beat them join them attitude).
*Like your food piping hot- though the food is great, huge choice and all tasty it is all luke warm which kind of takes the edge off it
*Dont like drinking from small plastic cups all day - the glasses are only in the dining room and at night in the bar after 8pm

After 2 days round the pool we took the bus to the beach and never looked back. took free packed lunch and spent every day there still in the minority as a nation but this is Majorca after all!
This is definately not the best all inclusive hotel you could visit but still represents good value for money if the family all in deal is your bag
