We last stayed at The Ola Maioris in October 2003 for a week .
Unfortunately the weather was horrible which dampened our overall enjoyment. I was pleased with the hotel, though.
This time we stayed for 2 weeks in July 2006 and the weather was fantastic, 30 degrees plus every day.
We had hired a car for the 2 weeks to go exploring and to do a bit of shopping.
The hotel is a about 20 minutes from Palma Airport and I would recommend hiring a car as the hotel is in a quiet developing part of Puig de Ross.
There is no beach near the hotel although there is a free bus every morning to take you to the sandy beaches of Arenal about 10 minutes away. The bus picks you up at about 5pm to take you back to the hotel. The hotel is also handy for the Aqualand water park (5 minutes drive)..
You can also walk from the hotel for about 10 minutes and take a winding road down to the sea which has amazing views.
You need to be fit though as the road IS steep and you may need oxygen on the way up.
The hotel has had a paint job since we were last there and is now teracotta and not white as shown in the medhotels brochure but no worse off for that.
The hotel foyer is well presented and clean and the reception staff friendly and helpful.
Our room was spacious and cleaned every day with fresh towels daily and bed linen changed every 3 to 4 days.
We were all inclusive ( I think everybody else was, too) and had the obligatory wristbands. The restaurant is bright and clean although there are quite a lot of tables packed into it. During the restaurants peak time it was difficult getting a table (particularly if you have 4 or 5 in your party) as the waiters sometimes struggled to cope with the numbers of diners. The solution was to go early. In fairness to the hotel they had addressed this towards the end of our stay by limiting the amount of diners entering the restaurant during busy times.
The food was good, too. There was a cold buffet as well as hot food. There was always soup, fish ,pasta and chips. The meats varied between beef, lamb, chicken and pork cooked in a variety of ways and our food was always hot. On occasion there was also paella and serrano ham which I like and would have enjoyed more often. For dessert there was always fresh fruit, ice cream, lovely gateaus, pastries etc. Our kids enjoyed the variety. Drinks were self service including red, white and rose wine and beer and soft drinks.
You could also order a packed lunch from reception for the next day if you planned to go out and about. The packed lunch had rolls, butter, jam, pate , cold meat, yoghurt and bottled water.
There are 2 swimming pools and one small toddlers pool which were cleaned regularly. Drinks taken at the bar during the day were served in plastic cups to avoid broken glass. At night time drinks were served in glasses and the all inclusive service stopped at 11pm and after that you had to pay.
There was a kids club which our children enjoyed immensely and the entertainment staff were really good with the children. There was also a variety of activities organised throughout the day for adults such as darts, shooting, football, water polo, volleyball, etc.
We never stayed for the evening entertainment and instead went in the car to Arenal or Palma so I can't comment on it.
There were an equal number of French, Germans and Britons and the hotel catered to us all . There was the inevitable reserving of loungers by the pool area and you had to get up really early to get a good spot or one with an umbrella. However, on our last day I noticed management had put up signs stating there would be no access to the pool area until 7.30 am to stop people reserving sun loungers. Whether this worked I don't know...
Our family had a great time and I would definitely come back again. This hotel is best for families.
The best piece of advice I can give you is to hire a car and book it before you arrive as it will save you £££s..
