Reviewed 3 June 2012

after reading some reviews i admit i was a bit worried about going to this hotel. it probably is more a 3 than a 4t hotel compared to where we have stayed before but it is first class!! service is excellent, staff are all very friendly and helpful. reps were exceptional! hotel could do with a facelift as parts of it are a bit tired looking but it is very clean. food was good, something for everybody.we stayed in a suite and the room was kept spotless. public toilets needed a wee bit more attention more often through the day but not too bad. we went for a chilled week and thats what we did, quiet area but lovely, few bars and restaurants, one irish bar but not very irish. Would go back.

Room Tip: hotel sits at the top of a hill with amazing views but not good if you struggle with mobility proble...

Arrival at Mahon airport was a pleasure best airport we have been to, we couldnt find any Thomson Staff for our welcome to advise on which coach we were on, we had to go to the Thomson customer service desk and wait whilst a rep finished talking on the phone. he then shouted to the back room for someone to come out and greet us. There seems to be utter chaos in despatching the coaches to the various hotels, we were all loaded and waiting to go but were last to be despatched 20mins we sat in a hot sweltering coach and watched whilst every other coach was loaded and despatched.. its upto the Thomson airport manager which coach goes first apparently...not sure how, he was sitting in an office on the other side of airport, but the reps were all young people more interested in getting back into the customer service office for tea and a laugh than organising the departures i an orderly way.
We booked a Suite which had sea view & an attached lounge with bed settee & extra TV. The furniture was very basic & dated, the fridge smelled horrible. The bed settee was unusable, the springs had seen better days very poor the so called comfortable suit lounge had two sit up chairs to watch the TV the bed settee was gruby and uncomfotable. The suite rooms are located on the resteraunt side of the hotel first room on each floor, we could here the lifts up and down all night, bar doesnt close until 1am so be prepared to hear the lifts till then. An iron & board is supplied in room, The iron was unusable it was burnt on the ironing face. The beds i think were supplied by FRED FLINSTONE weve never slept on such hard beds. The Suite option definately not worth the money. The room was cleaned everyday but after there was leftover long black head hair on the floors, obviously shedded from the cleaner.
The quiet lounge...no such thing, there is a TV at both ends of this lovely comfortable lounge so if you like constant football football football then this is for you, but dont expect a quiet drink & chat the loud echo of the cheapo entertainment from the upstairs club room and the TV's blaring football its impossible. You need to add 30 mins wasted time to your holiday as the restraunt never opened on time the 3 times a day 7 days a week we were there, join the queue & stand an wait. Blaring music from the pool all day long,Towels on sunbeds reps only glance round quickly to check and do not walk round pool to check, they seem reluctant to carry out the hotel rules saying towels will be removed from unattended bed before 10am...not enough beds for everone. If you want a Butlins type fun & games holiday with Thomson reps belowing out orders and quiz games then this is for you. Hotel staff excellent polite helpfull .

Dear menocafan!
Thank you very much for your comments and advice. We are happy that you are satisfied with the staff of the hotel. We would like to inform you that we have suites on the other side of the complex where it is quieter to spend more relaxing holidays. Furthermore we have already discussed the problem concerning the cleaning with our personal. Towels will be removed from the sunbeds if there are no clients there in order to make it possible for other clients to use our facilities. We thank you again for your help in order to improve our services. We hope to see you again at one of the Fiesta Hotel Group resorts/hotels in the future.

We've just returned 30 May and what an excellent week we had.

Room: we had a suite which was very spacious, air con was excellent although we did have a problem on the first day but the maintenace team were quick to fix it. There was a lovely basket of fruit and bottle of wine in the room when we arrived. The safe in the room was free as we were in a suite. All suites in the hotel have sea views, and it was beautiful first thing in the morning with the sun coming up. There was a TV in the bedroom and the lounge. You can get 4 channels, BBC1, BBC2, ITV1 & Channel4 - press digital button for BBC1&2 and analogue button for ITV1 & Channel 4. Pressure on the shower could have been better, clean towels every day.

Restaurant: food is excellent, plenty of choice at breakfast, lunch & dinner. Waiting staff work very hard.

Pool: yes there are some crowded areas around the pool, but there are areas where you can spread out. The Thomson rep "Ben" patrols the pool area before 10am and removes towels/bags etc from unoccupied beds - quite right I think, there really isn't any need to reserve sunbeds. The waiter service at the pool is outstanding - they come to you! One downside to the pool area is that you can't get a snack at the pool bar at lunchtime on the all inclusive, you have to go to the restaurant - You have to upgrade to AI Deluxe to get this and we didn't think it was worth it.

Entertainment: there is entertainment throughout the day around the pool courtesy of Adam and Selina - they are the best, as has been said in previous reviews. Adam definitely makes this hotel worth a visit, he is so funny, and they both work tirelessly throughout the day and in the evening.
The entertainment in the evening was sometimes excellent and sometimes bad. The Divas who were on on our last night were fantastic, however the Elivis impersonator was really bad!
The resident band - the guy was an ok singer but didn't think much of the female singer.
It was nice to see the waiters and waiteresses doing their dance at the end of the evening and getting some much deserved applause from the audience - my husband really enjoyed Zayada dancing!!

The Beach: there is a courtesy bus from the hotel a few times a day and I would advise using it as it is ok to walk down, however it is a long steep climb back - especially in the heat. There are a couple of restaurants on the beach, we had a very nice Paella in Copas. The beach is a beautiful horseshoe shape and the water is very clear, but a bit cold.

Area: there isn't a lot around the hotel, so if you like nightlife then this is not the place for you. We took the minitrain to Macaret as recommended by the Rep, the place was deserted! There was two restaurants and a scruffy looking bar. We ate in Biosphere as recommended - it was mediocre at best, we wished we had stayed in the hotel and saved the money.

We will go back to Menorca, possibly to this hotel, but would like to try a different resort

Room Tip: All inclusive really worth it here

We had a week at the hotel: the weather was excellent.
We had a room with a sea view which had a lovely view accross the bay. We were quite satisfied with the room which was of adequate size, reasonable furnished and compared fovourable with other Spanish hotels we have stayed in (we have stayed in 6 Gold hotels), it is only a 3 star hotel. The seaview rooms also face east so you get the sun in the room in the morning, and shade in the afternoon. The food was excellent, again following the Gold format of other hotels. If you haven't stayed in a Thomson Gold hotel it's a bit like Marks and Spencer the location my be different but inside they are generally all the same.
The staff were all very helpful.
Our only critism of the hotel is that the pool area is a little small for the size of the hotel, and there were not many umbellas, especially around the pool bar. Be warned if you leave your towels on a sunbed before 10am the staff will remove them if you are not there. This does stoppeople reseving sunbeds and then going out for the day.
The resort is very quite, there is not a lot to do.The Romani Resataurant near the Spar supermarket is a pleasant place for a drink, snack or meal. It has nice views accross the bay, the staff are very helpful and in the evening they don't mind if you just want a drink or a coffee. The prices are reasonable, 2,95 eros for a 500cc San Miquel.
There are buses but they are fairly infrequent, particularly on Sundays.
If you like a holiday where you spend all day around the pool or on the beach, you will like this hotel. If you like to get around you will need to hire a car.
Other travellers have critised the deposits for the towels and TV remote, this is a bit of a nuisance but you do get your money back. The hotel have presumable had to do this as there will always be a minority who will not look after these items, you only have to see the trolleys just dumped in a supermarket car park to realise there are a minority who could'nt care less about other peoples property.
Other travellers have mentioned Thomson's use of First Choice planes, we found these planes less comfortable than Thomson' own planes, they seem to have less legroom. We first experenced these planes last December on a flight to Lanzerote.

Room Tip: The seaview rooms are quieter and shaded in the afternoon. The standard rooms overlook the pool, wil...

Visited this hotel in 2009 , our first time on thompson gold and it was superb . Returned in 2011 and yet again, Superb, recommended to family members who have just returned and guess what they thought it was a fantastic holiday . We cant wait to go back.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are quieter with fantastic views and cooler in the afternoon. Amazing sunrises.
