“Phenomenal Views and Beautiful Villa ”
Reviewed 15 January 2017 for a stay in January 2017

The pictures and all the reviews don't even come close to describing how amazing and breath taking Villa Makambu is. Pascal was great to work with and Carlos, the caretaker of the villa, ensured we had everything we needed. Our first night there Carlos made us some snacks (I can't remember what he called them but they reminded me of a better version of hush puppies) and they were delicious! We visited the Castries market towards the end of our trip but wish we would have in the beginning! Tons of fresh fish and produce that was very affordable. If Carlos is available have him take you to the cliff nearby. It's a lovely small beach with great views and a hill, about twenty feet high, that you can jump into the water from. DEFINITELY recommend getting a car, especially because that's the best way to see and explore most of the island. Carlos was sweet enough to help us make reservations for the car and it couldn't have been more stress free! The car was dropped off and picked up so we didn't have to do a thing. If you have any hesitations or skeptical about Villa Makambu, don't! This is by far the nicest rental I've stayed in and Carlos couldn't have been a better host. Thanks for making our vacation so great!!

“Incredible”
Reviewed 23 July 2016 for a stay in July 2016

My wife and I spent a week at Villa Makambu for our honeymoon. The place is absolutely amazing! The pictures and descriptions don't do it justice. Carlos was an extremely kind man who was willing to do whatever we asked of him. We enjoyed spending time talking to him and learning more about the island. We were greeted with some of his fish fritters which were to die for! He had also cleaned and prepared fish for us (which we had caught) on two separate nights. He has a Doberman named Monte who was the sweetest dog. Josee helped facilitate travel and vacation plans while we were there and she was very sweet and helpful.

In regards to the island...Marigot Bay is a perfect spot for people who want to keep it more low key. However, there are plenty of good restaurants, a market, and a place to rent kayaks/hobiecats/etc. Soufriere, Castries, and Vieux Fort seemed to be the more popular/tourist spots. All of these places are within an hour so it is perfect to be able to make day trips there, but have the ability to escape all of that when we wanted. I would highly recommend renting a car if you are planning on visiting any of these places. Cabs are readily available but are quite expensive. We rented a car for the entire trip, although we did not need it the entire time, it was nice to have. I would recommend getting local currency (EC). The US dollar is accepted in most places, but you will end up getting charged more if people know you have it. If you like Indian food make sure you visit Masala Bay in Marigot Bay. The place was incredible. We also ate at the Rainforest Hideaway. The food was pretty good, but I did not think it was worth the price.

All in all....St. Lucia is our favorite place we have visited in the Caribbean. Villa Makambu is a beautiful place that offers everything we could have wanted. When we come back we will be staying there again.

“Paradise - Absolutely Phenomenal”
Reviewed 22 April 2016 for a stay in April 2016

Wow, wow, wow. This villa is amazing, the pictures and all the amazing reviews are completely accurate. There is nothing to be desired! The pool, view, accommodations, furnishings and surroundings are beautiful and well cared for.

The villa is equipped with everything, really everything that you may need. From the fully stocked kitchen, to hammock to pool floaties, to wifi to charcoal bbq, to cleaning service, to binoculars to outlets for Canada and us devices, to local cell phone. It has it all!

The entire booking process, information and support from all the staff was well beyond our expectations. Everyone went out of their way to ensure that everything was seamless and we were well taken care of. Carlos really is the man! He was so kind and helpful and went out of his way to ensure we got to see and do everything we wanted to do. He was also really fun to spend time with!

All in all, if you are thinking about booking this place, DO NOT HESITATE!

A couple of Tips:
You should rent a car, it will be hard to get around without one.
You don't really need US currency, you could just bring EC, it would actually be easier IMO.

“Villa Makambu as good as it gets!”
Reviewed 31 March 2016 for a stay in February 2016

Some things you should know about Villa Makambu:

The photos you see here look great. But they don't do justice to the reality of the place, which is even more impressive. The views are spectacular, the Villa's design is thoughtfully laid out, the furnishings are attractive and comfortable, it's equipped to make you feel right at home (if home for you happens to be situated in paradise).

But the people of Villa Makambu are really its greatest asset. The owners, Pascale and Franz, are lovely folks -- fun, easygoing, comprehensively knowledgable after nearly twenty years on the island, entirely helpful and dedicated to providing the best possible experience for their guests. Should they happen not to be there during your visit, their friends and fellow local innkeepers Josee and Pierre step in to make sure that guests are similarly well taken care of. Always on hand are the amazing Carlos, the Villa's Man of All Seasons, and wonderful Miranda, who thoroughly cleans each of the units every three days.

St. Lucia is dramatically beautiful and the Lucian people in general are welcoming and helpful to visitors. Although life is a struggle for many of them, there's an air of basic civility and generosity which unfortunately can't be said of some other Caribbean destinations. Marigot Bay is ideally located in the functional center of the island, within easy reach of most attractions, and yet comfortably removed from the hubbub that attends cruise ship disgorgements and the swarms of funsters from the island's numerous more northerly resorts.

If you want a predictable, low-impact, white-bread, for-god's-sake-don't-set-foot-off-the-grounds sort of Caribbean vacation, there are plenty of suitable options on St. Lucia and elsewhere to choose from.

But if your idea of a good time is sitting on your veranda enjoying a panoramic view of one of the sweetest protected harbors in the Caribbean, maybe taking an occasional cooling dip in the saltwater pool, maybe letting Captain Carlos take you out in his boat for a day on the water that includes snorkeling at his secret underwater forest of shimmering coral, maybe taking in a happy-hour sunset from the bayside dock at Chateau Mygo down the hill, maybe taking a half-hour drive to the capital, Castries, to hit the open air market or to buy the freshest mahi-mahi or yellowfin by the side of the road where Carlos told you the day-boat fishermen sell their catch, Villa Makambu may be right up your alley.

A couple of points in response to other comments left here -- after nearly six weeks over two years as guests at this villa, we've never experienced any issues whatsoever with the plumbing or water supply. Outside the Villa, we tend to stick with bottled liquids out of an abundance of caution but at Makambu we drink the tap water, we use it for cooking and to make coffee and tea and we've never had a reason to regret it.

For us, it's hard to imagine a better Caribbean vacation experience. That's why we keep coming back. There's just no reason to roll the dice on anyplace else.

“the perfect place to stay in St Lucia!”

I could not recommend this villa enough! We spent two weeks in Nov/Dec 2015, the villa is in the perfect location to explore the island, but you will need a car to get around.

We rented one for part of our stay but Carlos the lovely grounds keeper is more than happy to run you down to the shop if needed (he also makes excellent fish fritters!!)

The villa itself is stunning with beautiful views overlooking Marigot bay - we stayed in the upper level which is beautiful and spacious with huge comfy beds, huge showers and fully equipped kitchen. The pool is just lovely, the perfect place to spend relaxing with a cocktail.

Pascale (the owner) was so lovely and helpful pointing us in the right direction to all the must sees of St Lucia.

Our favourite memory would have to be our day out on Carlos' boat so if you get the chance go! Such an amazing way to see the island.

We truly felt safe and well looked after and we're already dreaming of when we can return to Villa Makambu

Thank you again Pascale and your team! Hopefully we will get to stay with you again soon

:)
