I love Kempinski hotels, they have a very good name.

The staff here are very helpful and friendly, we opted for a suite on the third floor which was well appointed, clean and modern. We had a huge Sea facing balcony that got no sun at all at any time of day! We were offered an alternative suite facing the other way which did get sunshine but rather defeated the object. We were told we should have asked for a sunny balcony-not sure how we were supposed to know that the hotel basically faces North!

The breakfast was nice.

We had a big black tie dinner in their restaurant on the beach and while the food was good there was a large amount of main courses (rack of lamb) that were sent back as they were stone cold, they were also dreadfully over cooked -however catering for large parties is always a minefield.

We had dinner at the restaurant in the hotel on the terrace, the food was of a very good quality but there was so little light on the terrace that you couldn’t see what you were eating, investment in some lights on the terrace would be very wise and relatively cheap to make this dining experience a lot better, such a shame for the chef to produce such lovey food that the guest can’t see.

Not sure we would return to this Kempinski but don’t think it would disappoint a visitor for a few days, anything longer might be an issue.

We have turned this hotel into our summer holiday destination: We have been to it four times already, always coming for a summer holiday by the sea and brought friends with us this time. The atmosphere of the hotel is peaceful and relaxing and while some people might not be happy about it´s seclusion, that´s exactly why we come: A secluded private beach only for hotel guests (with an area for only adults) and a delightful and relaxing evenings in the restaurant, lobby bar or the outside terrace.

Final stay of our trip across Slovenia and Croatia and definitely best choice. Not possible to find better option than kempinski in these states. Clean, nice, great service, perfect kitchen. Hotel is not new but as usual by this chain well run. Half boards is more than good idea and value for the money- ala carte, quality and service very nice and helpful. Rooms are classic kempinski style, stylish, luxurious, clean. Beach 3 min walk or they can take you by club car. Enough comfo beds on the beach, two choices-quite area or “normal” part for families as we are. Stunning view to Portoroz and Pirana. Can go to water via classic entrance or molo.

Location:
Clean blue water with plenty of fish and seafood, rough countryside, farmland and vineyards. Good hiking and (mountain) biking routes, though it's relatively flat.

Getting to the hotel:
Practical if you're driving. More difficult by air, as the nearest (semi-) international airport is 90 km away.

Infrastructure:
All modern. Excellent quality and very clean as expected from a Kempinski. Well-appointed rooms, restaurants, pools, bar, spa, etc. Go for a room/suite with sea view. It's worth it.

The beach:
Although all pebbles and rocks, it is large, clean and very well looked-after. Modern, clean showers, toilets and changing rooms with plenty of towels. Service and options at the beach restaurant are a bit lax but acceptable.

Restaurants:
Clean, friendly and good service, but poor kitchen. My fish and clams were overcooked twice. When I asked for the reason, the chef sent me a message through the waitress, saying that they "deliberately overcook fish and seafood to prevent allergic reactions by guests." To me, making a mistake in the kitchen is acceptable, but deliberately destroying the texture as a policy is disappointing. This is the reason for the score of 4 instead of 5.

There are a couple of excellent local restaurants five minutes from the hotel in the small fishing port of Savudrja. They are not luxury, but offer superior food and wine with a friendly smile and at a fraction of the price.

Service:
Very polite, friendly and helpful. Not rushed! Staff speak excellent English and take their time to answer questions and provide advice. They are delighted to explain what Croatia and Istria have to offer. This warm behaviour comes seemingly from the friendliness of the Croatian/East European people rather than from strict training by the hotel, which makes your conversations all the more delightful.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with sea view.
