The Tavida Cascade Waterfall is located in the Cocle Province, not too far from the city of Penenome. You access the waterfall by entering at the Villa Tavida Hostal (which looked lovely and had a nice restaurant where you may choose to have a meal). After paying a minimal entrance fee, follow the path they have created for an easy hike to the waterfall. Be sure to wear a swimsuit! The water is very inviting and great photos can be taken.
It was a little difficult to find, so here are some directions: From Panama City it is about a 3 hour drive. Take the Interamerican Hwy and ride to Penonome. On the road you will pass through Arraijan, La Chorrera, Capira, Chame and San Carlos. When you get to Penonome, follow the road until you find the big Y shaped intersection. There the Interamerican Hwy gently turns to the left, but you need to go straight toward the city center. At the first intersection, turn right and then right again to take the road to Sonadora. Continue through the Churuquita Chiquita village until you reach a Y-shaped intersection. Here take the left road. Cross the bridge over the Zarti River and follow the road through Chiguiri Arriba, Chiriguita Grande, and Caimito. Continue on this road until the pavement ends and the road becomes stone (it is quite a distance). Watch on your left for the entrance to the Villa Tavida Hostal and enter here (left hand turn). Parking is available for the Hostal. After paying a minimal fee, follow the trail to the Waterfall.
