This is promoted as the flagship of the Club Med stable being opened in 2007 and graded as 5 tridents. In almost all respects it meets expectations as the village is beautifully designed and set out around a sandy bay and headland giving you a mixture of white sandy beaches and rocky seashores. This helps to create interesting viewpoints from different parts of the village and an exciting atmosphere – for example, eating at the fine dining restaurant ‘Le Phare’ watching the waves crash on the rocks below is truly memorable as is sunning yourself on the sandy beach in front of your own suite. We have stayed in most of Club Med’s ‘Vivre Exceptionnel’ villages and this is the best by far.

The personal welcome is excellent and the Chef du Village, ‘Eric Lejeune’, is outstanding in the way he makes you feel as though he is solely there for seeing to your every need. His team of GO’s, GE’s and general staff is superb and they work tirelessly to ensure that you are making the most of the village and the locality. For example, at the Zen pool Kailaish, Outam and Raj ensured that everything was in place for you to enjoy the peace and tranquility of the pool and bar. Their service was personable, attentive but never over the top. GE’s Eric and Thomas were so keen to ensure that everything was in order for our stay – champagne on arrival, minor repairs to the toilet flush being speedily addressed and arranging for us to stay in our suite until 1800 on our last day.

As this is an all-inclusive village, champagne included, we were spoilt for choice throughout our stay whether it be for golf tuition, sailing or other sports there was so much to do or not depending on your preferences. You were never pushed to join in. The spa (Cinq Mondes) is an additional expense but well worth it for the added luxury and attention.

Our suite with sea view was located right on the beach with the advantage of shade close to the terrasse and a few steps away a small stretch of beach almost to ourselves. The suite itself was beautifully furnished and equipped with copious storage space, a luxurious bathroom with double sinks, sunken bath and indoor and outdoor showers. A separate lounge with inclusive minibar, expresso coffee machine and wifi internet connection added to the sense of space and luxury.

The gardens are beautifully landscaped and cared for and ground-staff and cleaners are very respectful and courteous. Golf cart style taxis are available to take you to all corners of the village though we preferred to enjoy the walks around the village as there was so much to see and enjoy. Whilst we were there the weather was superb – no rain in 7 days and everyday was 30°C with superb summer blue skies with dotted clouds.

Dining at all times of the day was very good and the choices on offer at breakfast, lunch and dinner were remarkable. The Head chef and his team created some wonderful buffets and at each meal several keynote dishes were served. With all ranges of cuisine catered for you were spoilt for choice. From pan fried fois gras with red fruit chutney to grilled lobster tails the quality and standard of dining was very high. The principal restaurant is ideally situated overlooking the small bay, the beach and gardens and is laid out so that you can socialize amongst other guests or have an intimate table for two – at last Club Med has got the message that, sometimes, people like their own space. During our 7 days there was a good mix of ages, nationalities and cultures represented in the clientele. The fine dining restaurant, ‘Le Phare’ is situated on a rocky headland by the Zen pool and must be booked in advance on the day. The quality of the cuisine there is good but not exceptional, though it is the best of the fine dining restaurants that we have tried in various Club Med villages.

The principal pool, positioned near the main bar, restaurant and beach is excellent but if you want to have a quiet sun bathe or read by the pool go to the Zen pool where children are not allowed. Not that the main pool is overly noisy – it is the base for activities such as aqua-gym, water polo and team games. The staff at the bar are very attentive and Brumaud, in particular, is excellent. We did not see all the theatrical spectacles during our stay but those we did see were entertaining but not to the standard of the GO’s at Columbus Isle.

We arranged our own trip including 3 days in Cape Town and 3 days on safari in South Africa and so transfers were not included. Through Google we found an excellent taxi service called Taxis Mauritius and you can contact the owner, Sakhawat, by visiting www.taxismauritius.com. whose service was fautless. Just make sure that you say that it is the Club Med Albion resort you need as there is a hotel called La Plantation elsewhere on the island.

We unreservedly recommend La Plantation Albion.

We are an English couple and booked nine days at Albion Club Med as we wanted a luxury resort but also to pack in plenty of activities. I have stayed at Club Meds a couple of times before and was a bit wary of the GO culture.

All-in we had pretty good time, did loads, ate well and were also able to relax away from it all. Also was pleasantly surprised by Mauritius. Some tips... 1) go on-line and book through a discount agent, it is much cheaper than booking through Club Med 2) we flew Air Mauritius from London, a fantastic airline with good food. I would prefer it over BA. 3) Try and get a room with a sea view.

We actually booked a suite, which was pretty nice, although switched from a garden view to a sea view, when we discovered teh "luxuriant private garden" was actually a rather sorry-looking piece of shared lawn over-looked by a pathway. Our seaview suite had a lovely private beach feel, shaded by trees and with waves softly breaking through the night.

This Club Med is a non-kids concept, with most guests averaging in their 40s-50s, although there were plenty in their 30s. I would say they were also about 70% French, but with quite a few South Africans etc, and English was widely spoken, so that was not a problem.

The other Club Med on Mauritius is cheaper and more English. It has more of holiday camp feel and bigger white sand beach, which also has speed boats etc zooming around all the time, which ours didn't.

I have stayed at plenty of five star beach resorts, and I thought this was a really good compromise. You don't get the waiters with white linen everywhere, but the accommodation and communal facilities pretty good. We really liked the fact that there was loads going on all the time and didn't have the hassle of arranging things and paying bills all the time.

There is beautiful uncrowded golf course nearby, the hoby cats are brand new and always available, we went swimming with dolphins (arranged externally, ask for Olivier the taxi driver at reception), game fishing, scuba diving (good, but not amazing) and all the normal stuff, including dance lessons, tennis, sea kayaking, poker nights and a lovely little outdoor cinema at nights. All in all, I would prefer it to a regular five star resort or the other club med. We loved the big communal meals (you can your own table if you want it). where you could meet people.

Came home tanned, happy and relaxed

Just got back from this brand new flagship Club Med having had a fantastic short break there.
Would thoroughly recommend it for discerning couples or families with teenage children as it does not have a kids club (this is available at their other resort, Pointe au Cannoniers).
Two wonderful pools, with plenty of high quality sunbeds and excellent and attentive pool service for drinks, towels etc.
Three room categories available, all in contemporary style with roll top, free standing baths, double sinks and rainhead showers.
Nice long beach with watersports.
Usual Club Med activities, such as tennis, archery, aqua aerobics, snorkelling trips etc.
Wonderful spa.
Two restaurants, excellent food with a huge amount of choice.
All inclusive concept with bar drinks, champagne and wine and snacks throughout the day in case you have a tiny little bit of space left in your stomach after gorging yourself at breakfast or lunch!
If you have never been to a Club Med before, or have been slightly put off by their concept in the past, please give this one a try, you will be pleasantly surprised
