There were 7 of us. We all loved it. The house has a great floor plan ... you can be in the sun or the shade at any time, depending on which side of the house you sit in. There are 4 different dining areas for all occasions. The kitchen is spacious and well stocked. The pass-through to the pool-side table is brilliant. There is a seating area on the main floor as well as upstairs.
The front patio is a delight when the fishing boats come in and bring the bird show. We would watch them nearly every day. There is an access road next to the house but it never seemed to be an issue for us regarding noise or traffic. The bedrooms have their own bathrooms and are equipped with seating and plenty of closet space.
We swam in the ocean in all different kinds of weather ... sometimes the water was completely placid and other days it would be 3-4 foot rolling waves! It was perfect having the pool on the leeward side of the house to rinse off the salt. Yes, the boats did moor out front but they were usually gone all day. You can walk the beach miles in either direction. You need to watch out for the boat ropes but you'll find some remarkable shells.
We had a chef come and cook for us one night. That was a special treat and well worth the cost. I'm not sure if there are several chefs or how it works but we had Chef Diego and thought his food was outstanding. Have the dulce de papaya for dessert!
The best thing about this house is the proximity to Chicxulub. You can get pretty much everything you need there, all within walking distance. I think most everything was cheaper in Chicxulub than in Progreso, from toilet paper to wine! There is a cyber cafe next to the laundry. Get some fresh-sqeezed orange juice and some fresh tortillas on the way home. There are plenty of places to eat and an ice cream shop. Some nights the marquesita guy is in the square. And if you have to go in to Progreso, your collectivo stops at the end of your driveway. (It's also an easy bus ride to Merida. Go on Sunday when they close off the main square.)
The negatives are about dealing with Proreso Vacation Rentals. We were unable to use the wifi usb that we'd ordered and we immediately gave it back to them and they assured us they would credit our paypal. Of course they haven't and ignore our repeated requests for the promised refund. And don't order their $95 bbq ... go to the Bodega and buy one for $45 and you'll have a decent one. (We gave the one we bought to Ron at La Casa del Faro and he was thrilled to have it. Try his burgers! They're great!!)
I would rent this house again. I wish I could rent it from someone besides Progreso Vacation Rentals.
