Magnificent surroundings in a paradise of roses, lovely decorated interieur, extremely friendly reception by the owners, overall a real life's work, breakfast good, dinner as well, you can choose out of several courses of a monthly changing menu, cooked by the owner David. NIce wine selection, good recommendations, you could try the feat English Sparkling Ridgeview Room and especially bath small, this was expected, noisy, as estate is near the main road, windows cannot be opened, therefore it get's warm inside, you could use a fan. Very clean. A place, excellent not only for the Glyndebourne festival.

We arrived after a horrible journey on Thursday. Our room was small (they had explained in advance that this was the only room available) but had everything you need including a fridge. Supper was gorgeous and the service is courteous and attentive. Everyone seemed to be a regular and we enjoyed talking to returners from Glyndebourne knowing it would our turn the next evening. Breakfast is served in a lovely bright room and was everything you need a good breakfast to be. The rooms are noisy from the consistent traffic but thoughtfully provided earplugs ensured a good nights sleep. Lovely garden and we enjoyed a rare bit of summer sun both in the afternoon and before breakfast amongst some stunning roses. Fabulous and if we get invited to Glyndebourne again we will be back - probably for longer!

The fact that Crossways has been in the same hands for so many years really shows. David and Clive know what works and they create a highly professional yet relaxed atmosphere in this Georgian country house hotel. Past reviews say it all, but we liked the extra touches such as small glass bottle of cold milk in the fridge for our teas also mineral water. Beds were comfortable, pillows the sort we like but rarely find in hotels and lovely crisp cotton bed linen, fluffy towels etc. You are offered choice of fresh fruit salad or cereals for breakfast, followed by their full English or any kind of eggs, with lashings of toast and home made marmalade, jams etc. The scrambled were spot on, mushrooms fresh and earthy. every ingredient is carefully chosen and beautifully presented, which of course also applies to dinner. Dinner is served in a separate room, which we sampled on one of the two nights we were there. We were so glad we did! Lots of choice for each course with fixed price of £41, includes soup in between the starter and main course plus coffee and petit fours. Great wine list, with some available as 500ml carafe. Each course was memorable and we chose different things so could get a flavour of David's talents. Daphne said her Roast breast of Gressingham duck served with Orange ginger and mango sauce was the best she had ever eaten and my Rack of lamb was meltingly tender, with traditional port, redcurrant and rosemary sauce to intensify the flavour. Four dishes of fresh vegetables accompanied our main courses, all perfectly cooked. Crossways is a real treat and we will defintely be returning - our excuse this time was the excellent Ravilious exhibition at the Towner Art Gallery in Eastbourne but the whole area is wonderful for walking and sightseeing.

Dear Jenny.

Thank you so much for your glowing review of you stay with us at Crossways. As you say we have been here a long time, 30 years and are just getting the hang of it. I hope that you had an uneventful trip back to the West Country and will come back and visit us again at Crossways.

Best wishes to you and Daphne.

We have now stayed at Crossways three times and on each occasion have been made very welcome, had nice rooms and very comfortable beds.
The gala dinners are spectacular with an extensive wine list.
David, the owner is charming and always ready to help.
I would highly recommend this small hotel to anyone.
