The fact that Crossways has been in the same hands for so many years really shows. David and Clive know what works and they create a highly professional yet relaxed atmosphere in this Georgian country house hotel. Past reviews say it all, but we liked the extra touches such as small glass bottle of cold milk in the fridge for our teas also mineral water. Beds were comfortable, pillows the sort we like but rarely find in hotels and lovely crisp cotton bed linen, fluffy towels etc. You are offered choice of fresh fruit salad or cereals for breakfast, followed by their full English or any kind of eggs, with lashings of toast and home made marmalade, jams etc. The scrambled were spot on, mushrooms fresh and earthy. every ingredient is carefully chosen and beautifully presented, which of course also applies to dinner. Dinner is served in a separate room, which we sampled on one of the two nights we were there. We were so glad we did! Lots of choice for each course with fixed price of £41, includes soup in between the starter and main course plus coffee and petit fours. Great wine list, with some available as 500ml carafe. Each course was memorable and we chose different things so could get a flavour of David's talents. Daphne said her Roast breast of Gressingham duck served with Orange ginger and mango sauce was the best she had ever eaten and my Rack of lamb was meltingly tender, with traditional port, redcurrant and rosemary sauce to intensify the flavour. Four dishes of fresh vegetables accompanied our main courses, all perfectly cooked. Crossways is a real treat and we will defintely be returning - our excuse this time was the excellent Ravilious exhibition at the Towner Art Gallery in Eastbourne but the whole area is wonderful for walking and sightseeing.

Dear Jenny.

Thank you so much for your glowing review of you stay with us at Crossways. As you say we have been here a long time, 30 years and are just getting the hang of it. I hope that you had an uneventful trip back to the West Country and will come back and visit us again at Crossways.

Best wishes to you and Daphne.

David

We have now stayed at Crossways three times and on each occasion have been made very welcome, had nice rooms and very comfortable beds.
The gala dinners are spectacular with an extensive wine list.
David, the owner is charming and always ready to help.
I would highly recommend this small hotel to anyone.

We have stayed at Crossways four times for their Glyndebourne special breaks and it is always a pleasure to be there. The food is fabulous and David and Clive are warm and welcoming hosts. Rooms are very comfortable and every facility is provided.

We booked here because we wanted to book a reasonably pleasant hotel close/ish to Glyndebourne and we certainly feel we hit very lucky in finding this gem. The place is clean and wholesome and the food simply divine. Although the hotel was fully booked when we enquired we were offered a two night break with a gourmet meal on the night we were not at the opera staying in the annexe opposite which was a really well fitted out holiday cottage. Our breakfasts were perfect in the main hotel and our evening meal here was something we shall never forget. There were about 15 people dining (about the maximum number) and the service and food were something very special indeed with a vast choice of freshly prepared items, cooked superbly and served beautifully with generous quantities of perfectly cooked vegetables. If you are thinking of staying here be sure to have one of these meals at least once! My friend and I are planning our next visit already even though this is not and easy journey for either of us!

Room Tip: the hotel is on a very busy road so rooms at the back will be quieter
