We chose this hotel for our stay in Tuscany pretty much because of the movie which was filmed here (Letters to Juliet) and thought that if it was good enough for Amanda Seyfried, surely it must be good enough for us.
On reflection we wish we stayed somewhere else as Tuscany is certainly not short of hotels.
We booked deluxe room. First room we were given was split on 2 floors which in theory sounds good, but in reality it was just very small and impractical. There was just a bed upstairs and you could not fit anything else and downstairs was tiny lounge with small table and one chair only!
As we were travelling with dogs this was also dangerous as they could have fallen through the banisters on the stairs at any point easily.
We asked for the room to be changed and were offered a room which was on single floor but not big and of strange layout with a very ugly bathtub inside the bedroom, walk in shower in the bathroom was okay, however the bed was uncomfortable and the red tiles on the floor just gave the whole room a very cold and strange feel. The room was also based on the main pathway to the swimming pool/tennis courts which meant that people were constantly walking past and you had to have the shutters closed the whole time as there was bed directly by the door and no seating area so the room was dark and miserable.
The bed had no duvets and although it was a hot summer night, the air con worked too well so you ended up freezing. We complained about this but were only offered a blanket (and sarcastically offered to show us how to switch the ac off).
The grounds are stunning and the hotel does have 2 outdoor swimming pools and tennis courts so you can just relax and enjoy a nice book under the Tuscan sun or get some exercise of you wish.
Food in the restaurant was good, but choice not great. Most waiters seemed quite ignorant also and were selective over who to be nice to.
When we asked for local red wine we were brought a bottle without offering wine list or any choice (even though there was so much to choose from).the outdoor restaurant area was very packed also and you almost felt like you had to whisper so we asked to be moved to a separate table outside the bar which turned out to be a great choice. Amazing views and privacy. We also got a waiter who was actually friendly and professional so not all was bad.
As we were travelling around Europe and were quite tired we decided to stay another night so that we can visit Siena and spend some time by the pool.
We asked to upgrade to a better room on the second night as we really hated the room we were given for the first night.
Junior suite was not much bigger, had worse bathroom facilities and it just seemed they crammed way too much furniture in.
The suite was huge and would have probably been better but was not nice enough to pay €420 for the sake of spending there few hours. I don’t understand what it is with the ugly brick floor but do not remember seeing this in the movie!
We decided to stay in the room we were in as it seemed to make most sense considering everything.
We managed to do our sightseeing and get some much needed rest and had dinner again. The same table was set up for us and we had the same waiter who was great and attentive and we really looked forward to this. The food was very good as the night before. Only complaint is that there wasn’t more to choose from. More pasta dishes and some truffle dishes would have been welcome.
We decided to spend some time by the pool before checking out the following day and asked for late check out. We were allowed until 12.30 which was plenty of time. We managed to lock ourselves out of the room as no one took the key to the pool so had to sort that out to get back in and get ready to leave.
The receptionist gave us a key but said that we also must still have a key for the first room they showed us initially which we didn’t, but still wasted time looking for it as they were adamant. This meant we were running late checking out. We still needed to shower and pack and were quite stressed being aware they needed the room back, but at the same time wanting to make sure we don’t leave anything behind.
What annoyed us the most was that the reception kept calling the room trying to rush us to get out (first time this has happened). We were only 20 minutes late checking out so really didn’t appreciate being rushed and it completely spoiled the relaxed Tuscan feeling we stayed another night for.
No help was offered to get our luggage to the car which had to be parked in a car park a good walk up and down steep hills.
The receptionists and staff were generally very smug and did not have welcoming or accommodating attitude.
They spoke good English, so it definitely wasn’t language barrier issue.
The 2 night stay set us back just under 1000 EUR and I can honestly say it was definitely not worth it.
The room was definitely the worst and most uncomfortable we ever stayed in and if you’re paying good money for a hotel room, it should be reflected in the look and feel of it.
Nespresso machines are only available in the suites. We’ve stayed in nicer rooms with better facilities for a lot less.
Final verdict - we would return to Tuscany but would spend our money elsewhere.

What a revelation to arrive in the huge superbly converted ancient stone building converted to a 5+ start luxury hotel. The rooms are very large and well appointed. The views across valleys studded with wine fields looking across to Sienna in the distance are breathtaking. The in-house restaurant serves an excellent breakfast, and dinners are goo to very good (but not outstanding). Highly recommended accommodation in Tuscany.

Stayed here on a corporate trip. Deep in the Tuscan countryside with stunning views of the surrounding hills. A tree lined drive announces your arrival at this hotel. The hotel has two swimming pools that make for a relaxing stay. We stayed in room 900 which was spacious and well presented. Breakfast was served by attentive staff in the garden area. The hotel has a sister Vineyard that is a short bus ride away. Sienna is a short taxi ride away. So relaxing didn't want to leave.

What a lovely and refreshing place to stay. In the heart of Tuscany, offering lovely decorated rooms and friendly service.
The breakfast is delicious and the environment simply divine. 2 or 3 nights are perfect to explore the region.

It's a stunning place with awesome view, away from city life. Very elegant, high-end. Entire location of this complex, style it's maintained, whole complex, equipment is amazing, simply amazing. However there is still some room for improvement in room equipment, room standards, it does not fit yet perfectly to the rest, but it's still very good.

Worth recommending, place of a type "must be".
