“Top Quality but - Over Priced”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 July 2011

Having looked at the reviews for this restaurant prior to travelling we thought it was a must.
I wouldn’t say I was disappointed, just expected more. We were the first to arrive and initially the service was as you would expect. We didn’t have a starter just went straight for the fillet steak in a bed of spinach at 34 Euros. The quality was as good as you will get. The steak just melted in your mouth. Not a meal for those who like a large plate with a few spuds etc (that’s me!) The bottle of Chianti came at 35 Euros (Sip it dear!!!) After the main course it became obvious why the (owner / order taker/ wine expert) was wearing training shoes!!! It became too busy for the staff to a point the chef (chef /owner/ wife) brought out some meals and took some orders in the restaurant. At some point between ending the main course and eventually getting our desert a number of people were getting turned away even though the restaurant was less than half full. I don’t know if this was an isolated event or if they carry on like this each evening. What spoiled it for us was the time taken to serve.
You could see the owner / order taker/ wine expert was aware of the need for service and although we didn’t ask we could hear him giving advice and options on wines which is rarely given in restaurants in the UK
The cook is an expert and 5 star
The prices and the quality are on a par with the Relais La Suvera but lack the ambience and lacks the service only because they are short of a couple of waitresses
A couple of waitresses would allow the owner time to do what he does well and fill those empty seats.
Humble advice ,drop your main course prices by approx 5 Euros , employ a couple of waitresses, use your talent / knowledge visiting all the tables in your restaurant to increase your wine sales and with your wife’s meals which are second to none you will fill your restaurant .
Best Regards BC.

“Significantly bettr than hotel restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 May 2011

We spent two nights at La Suvera which were both amazing. We ate here the second night and thought it was 10x better than the hotel restaurant which we thought was stuffy and overpriced. Make sure the hotel makes you a reservation at this restaurant so you can sit outside in the downstairs area. The wine was amazing, the service was very very friendly, and the food was some of the best we have had during our 10 days in Italy. The lamb was definitely a terrific order and my wife had the lasagna which was also great. You could walk here from the hotel or you could drive, it's quite close,

“Traveller, you shall be disappointed - avoid if you can!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 May 2011

We cannot confirm the excellent reviews of our predecessors. The ambiente is so-so, one could live with it if it wasn't for the considerably high prices - pork filet nearly 30 Euros, hmm... Our test confirmed the first impression, this restaurant is not worth the money they ask for their food, the portions are small à la haute cuisine, but fail to deliver on the taste you expect for what you pay. On top of that, we had to wait relatively long although there were only five guests in total. We wondered how long one has to wait in high season. All in all, we have difficulties in understanding how the other reviewers arrived at their recommendation. For us we clearly have to put a warning sign on this place and recommend not to eat in alla Pieve.

“Charming and Impeccable”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 October 2010

My husband and I were staying at Relais La Suvera during our honeymoon. We asked the reception to recommend a local restaurant with excellent food and were directed to Ristorante alla Pieve by the staff at La Suvera. The dining room is extremely charming. Many family-owned and run restaurants in Italy may be little houses converted into restaurants and may have very old furnishings and bathrooms- this is not the case with Ristorante alla Pieve- the dining rooms are charming, the tables and chairs are gorgeous and of excellent quality. The atmosphere is welcoming and romantic. The view from the restaurant is of the Chianti hills. What stands out the most is the quality of the food. Everything we ate from our antipasto to our first course of pasta to our entrees and the home made Panna Cotta were fantastic. While in the restaurant, we began conversing with another couple who were seated next to us and learned that they had a cooking lesson with Paula earlier in the day. We were dining on a Saturday evening, when we learned of this, we immediately wanted to take a lesson with Paula as well, but feared that the next day, Sunday was our last day in Tuscany. Paula graciously rearranged her schedule and accomodated us the next morning for a private cooking lesson in her impeccable kitchen. After our lesson, we had lunch at Ristorante alla Pieve and were given champagne, chianti and moscato during our 4 course lunch that consisted of the food we learned to cook earlier in the day. I cannot not say enough about Paula and Villiam and their wonderful restaurant and wine shop.

“Delicious and charming. Worth finding. Visiting and revisiting.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 September 2010

Once we found this delightful place, we returned night after night. We came out of the rain into this warm and welcoming Enoteca. The wine is wonderful and fairly priced. The food is fresh, beautiful and the portions are just the right sized. Paula and Villium made us feel so comfortable. We had pork, chicken, pasta with boar, vegetarian lasagna, ravioli, antipasto and desserts that were absolutely wonderful. The gelato is sublime. The dessert wines capped perfect evenings for us. Among our favorite memories of Italy.
