Having looked at the reviews for this restaurant prior to travelling we thought it was a must.
I wouldn’t say I was disappointed, just expected more. We were the first to arrive and initially the service was as you would expect. We didn’t have a starter just went straight for the fillet steak in a bed of spinach at 34 Euros. The quality was as good as you will get. The steak just melted in your mouth. Not a meal for those who like a large plate with a few spuds etc (that’s me!) The bottle of Chianti came at 35 Euros (Sip it dear!!!) After the main course it became obvious why the (owner / order taker/ wine expert) was wearing training shoes!!! It became too busy for the staff to a point the chef (chef /owner/ wife) brought out some meals and took some orders in the restaurant. At some point between ending the main course and eventually getting our desert a number of people were getting turned away even though the restaurant was less than half full. I don’t know if this was an isolated event or if they carry on like this each evening. What spoiled it for us was the time taken to serve.
You could see the owner / order taker/ wine expert was aware of the need for service and although we didn’t ask we could hear him giving advice and options on wines which is rarely given in restaurants in the UK
The cook is an expert and 5 star
The prices and the quality are on a par with the Relais La Suvera but lack the ambience and lacks the service only because they are short of a couple of waitresses
A couple of waitresses would allow the owner time to do what he does well and fill those empty seats.
Humble advice ,drop your main course prices by approx 5 Euros , employ a couple of waitresses, use your talent / knowledge visiting all the tables in your restaurant to increase your wine sales and with your wife’s meals which are second to none you will fill your restaurant .
Best Regards BC.
