Owner description: Eagles Flying is a scientifically run Wildlife Sanctuary specializing on Birds of Prey and Owls. We focus on "hands on" interaction between our well trained animals and our visitors. During our educational flying demonstrations members of the audience can have a bird of prey land on their hand or have Eagles, Falcons, Hawks or Vultures stoop inches over their heads while Scientists inform in a friendly and fun way. Our visitors can also visit our unique "Touch-Zoo" where they can play and pet "Tui & Alan" our Foxes, get pick pocketed by "Grizzly" our tame Raccoon, have "Monty" our 4 meter Python around their shoulders or get up close and personal with any of the other unusual animals. Get closer than you have ever been to the masters of the sky. Eagles Flying really is an unforgettable experience and a must see for people of all ages and interests.

Personally, I hate seeing aimals kept in captivity, especially birds. But the dedication of the staff here won me over. We got to be in very close contact with the birds, everything from bald eagles to eagle owls and Himalayan vultures. They literally fly over your head and you get to touch them too. Very educational, especially for children.

A friend of mine recommended this to me about two years ago and I finally got around to seeing it last weekend (late June 2011).

It was fascinating. There is no other way to see these incredible birds-of-prey (they had a buzzard ... wing-span of 2.5metres or so ... and they flew it repeatedly directly over our heads).

It is extremely well organised. We were in-and-out within two hours. The bird-handlers were knowledgeable, friendly and didn't attempt to herd us about the place like children.

The 60 min show introduced each bird separately (owl, falcon, kestrel, hawks, eagles, vultures and a buzzard) and each member of the audience was shown each bird and allowed to film or photograph as we pleased.

The avery itself is very well sign posted and easy to find and at €9, I thought it was very reasonable.

Overall I highly recommend this show for every type of person ... young or old ... !!

Rob.

On the recommendation of family who visited, we went to the Eagles Flying centre. Despite only living 5 miles away, i had never been to this place. it was a fantastic experience: hugely educational, thoroughly interactive and most enjoyable to be able to see birds of prey close up. Everyone was so friendly and keen to impart plenty of information relating to all the animals (not just the birds) that they have out there. I would highly recommend a visit for people of all ages. A highly enjoyable afternoon!

We came to see the Birds of Prey and weren't disappointed. The show/presentation was very interactive and educational and we enjoyed it as did everyone else who was present - we were certainly glad it stayed dry as I am not sure what would have happened should it have rained! They also have a small petting zoo with pigs, rabbits, mice and even a racoon which was good fun. That is about it and it is a fairly 'no frills' experience and it is a 5 minute walk from the car park to the show. Don't expect to come and spend the day here as you won't be able to - 2 hours tops. Ordinarily I would say it is quite expensive for what you are getting but they are a conservation charity and you are paying to help endangered birds.

You dont see a sign post for the place until you make the turn out of Ballymoate however that was the only frustrating part of the day. We arrived early - it opens 30 minutes before the display - and waited along with an american couple at the entrance gate - which duly opened on time.

€9 each for an adult was reasonble for this acitivity and compares well to other similar locations we have visited. For this you get close to a displayy of hawks, kites, eagles, owls etc on the gardens a the front of the property, a petting zoo with the usual suspects and a very friendly racoon. Got hands on with a ferret as well who had really sharp claws but thankfully didnt sink them in.

The main event is a 1 hr display of some of the birds in action. The naration was very well informed and entertainly presented but also contained a strong emphasis on education. The display is focused on seeing the birds up close rather than on a lot of hunting demos (different to other displays I've seen but still enjoyable).

Got to pet a european eagle owl and six children from the audience got to have a hawk land on their arms.

Good morning activity.
