In the nice countryside of Nucera Umbra, 50 km away from Assisi, you can find an old monastry that now houses a SPA and Wellness hotel. The building, from 1330 has been restored in a very nice way. It is a bit of adventure to reach the monastry but once you are there you can enjoy the view and the rest. The staff is extremely friendly and helpfull. We ended up here after an overbooking by the hotel we booked in Armenzano. So unfortunately there was no room in the monastry. Instead we got dropped in a basic appartment. It was spacious, yet there was nothing to create the Italian feeling. There was no decoration and the bathroom could do with some maintenance. Beds were hard. Again the staff made a lot good and so did the food at the restaurant. The menu was small but a very good quality with local products and more importantly local beers. We did go for tasting menu with beers brewed at the San Biagio. The explanation of the brewmaster made the diner complete. Very good hotel for couples and if you are into spa and wellness. The fact that we got to stay in the appartment however did not work out.

Room Tip: book a room, not the appartment

I was impressed by the beauty and harmony of the place, the quality of the services and the food, and the quiet joy that overcame me as soon as I arrived. I would definitely recommend it as a ptit stop in your travel around Italy or for a longer, "heal every single part of you" spa experience.
Will definitely come back.

Friars really knew how to chose the locations where to build their monasteries on... this place is GREAT. One can still inhale the atmosphere of ancient times in a wonderful, luxurious ambiance.

Owner and staff is very nice and helpful, making their guests feel at home and the stay an exceptional one.

The beers from their own brewery are an absolute MUST to try and take away!
Great job they do and we will definitely be back!!!

The hotel is in a converted abbey in a fairly remote location. It is decently sign posted out of Nocera Umbra. The final approach is down a well maintained dirt road. The hotel itself is largely a converted abbey. Our room had stunning views of the countryside. No elevator, but not too many stairs. The room itself was adequate and rustic in decor. Parking is outside in a private parking area. The staff is friendly and English speaking. They have a restaurant on site with a varied but limited menu. This is a very quiet country hotel. They are installing a pool. You can visit their 14th C church, which today seems set up for weddings and concerts. A nice stay, booked through booking.com

Room Tip: room 3 had views is a corner room and has different views from the bathroom and the bedroom.

The food was good but we would have appreciated more flexibility at the restaurant. I'm latose intolerant and there wasn't much they could do to accomodate this dietary restriction (must say the waitress tryed and was very helpful though). At breakfast there wasn't much I could eat. On top of that we got food poisoned in Peruggia and their kitchen was not able to find anything to settle our upset stomachs. White rice, a broth, boiled potatos, anything light would have suited. The location is pretty, renewed, the facilities are good and clean. The service was overall good (for Italian standards) but there was a lot of improvising. I even thought the place was family owned, as they were not very professional. We got bad weather and there wasn't anything we could do besides the spa, so I suggest to plan for a vacation in summer.
