“Watched Etna erupt from the garden”

We were met in Milo by the owners and shown to the property. They kindly offered to take us to watch Etna erupting from a local viewpoint.Sadly we declined the offer as were exhausted from travelling. The property itself is basic, well looked after, and suited us brilliantly. The wealth of wildlife around the cottage was excellent. The cottage was a short walk from Milo, only a short drive from Etna or the sea.The road up to the cottage was a bit of a challenge for our budget hire car at first, but we soon got the measure of it .An excellent holiday and lovely friendly people. We will not hesitate to visit again

“Lovely peaceful forest cottage”
Reviewed 24 August 2014 for a stay in July 2014

We loved staying in this cottage in the forest with Etna erupting in the background. The facilities are fairly basic but adequate and we experienced none of the dampness mentioned by other reviews. It was what we expected when we booked. Evenings and nights were pleasantly cool although the access track is bumpy.
We loved the forest location and the owners were really helpful both with suggestions for where to visit and booking us onto a sunset trip up Etna to see the eruptions. You are alone with nature (and the bangs of Etna) in a lovely spot almost in Milo.
Beware the "Tourist Services" hut in the centre of Zaffrenna Etna - the tourism information is in the official building behind. The people in the hut are useless.

“Unspoilt, traditional peasants cottage with few luxuries”
Reviewed 23 April 2014 for a stay in April 2014

If we'd visited in summer we'd have been glad of the thick walls to keep out the heat. As it was, in April the inside of this basic, traditional cottage remained wintery cold, even after lighting the open fire and using a gas fire each evening. Only after making a huge fire on our last night that nearly suffocated us were we able to make the place warm. The cottage is reached by a steep and very potholed track which challenges the suspension of your hire car to the limits but you're rewarded by unspoilt, natural environment with traditional terraces blooming with flowers and buzzing with bees. We enjoyed our stay in spite of the cold and had the experience of what it would have been like to live as a Sicilian peasant 50 or more years ago. The owner did all he could to provide information, fire wood, gas, etc. The bedding provided was very aged and somewhat damp and dirty. It wouldn't be much expense to buy a new thick duvet and this would have made our stay much more comfortable.
