A lot of people seem to be hung up on this waterfall but if you're a waterfall enthusiast Iceland is definitely not lacking. It is relatively small although the accessibility is good as there is a defined path to walk up and around the waterfall. If you've rented a car and can make the drive there is a much more beautiful waterfall just 20 minutes up the road in the town of Olafsvik.

We stayed the night in a nearby guesthouse and noticed lots of people coming here at dusk to take long exposed shots. The next morning was slightly rainy but we decided to make the drive back there again and stop to see the waterfall with some better light.

There are infinite options for great shots, especially in a clear summer day. Otherwise is just a tiny waterfall near the Kirkjufell Mountain, which makes the view quite nice anyway.

Just like small waterfall that can find easily all in Iceland. Just because it stands opposite to Kirkjufell. So I am not that excited!

This was the prettiest view in all of Iceland in my opinion. It's pretty far away from Reykjavik if you are setting yourself up by there but it's worth the drive in my opinion (stop in Borgarnes for a swim on the way up or do the Snæfellsnes peninsula as a full day trip). Striking mountain and waterfall view. I personally liked it better than Gullfoss but my opinion would certainly be in the minority on that one. It's stark and unique and the mix of the mountain with the waterfall makes it amazing. There's a reason it is claimed to be the most-photographed waterfall in the country.

If you drive for 6,6 km from Grundarsfjördur along route 54, you will see Kirkjufells Mountain at the right side of the road and the path to Kirkjufells waterfall at the left side of the road.

There is a small free parking lot at the side of the road, but it fills up quickly, and at the time of our visit people had parked beside the road as well.

Kirkjufell mountain is one of the most photographed mountains in Iceland.
As the falls itself aren't spectacular, most people use them as a foreground in the picture of the mountain.

The area around the falls is roped off, as there have already been accidents with selfie-making tourists who slipped on the wet rocks and fell in the water.
