Review Highlights
Pretty little building.

Cool, quiet, within the castle walls. Plain and unadorned interior with a famous religious painting.

A typical majestic catholic church with a very special ambiance and feel. The architecture and fixtures ooze strength and purpose for the faithful.

The duomo is within the old city of Castelfranco Veneto, a small area about 2 blocks long and 2 blocks wide within tall walls with gates on either end. Inside the duomo are a number of nice works, along with a wonderful madonna masterpiece by Giorgione. We were lucky to visit one evening while an organist was practicing and gave us a wonderful concert. We then attended a crowded mass on Sunday with many families in attendance. It is nice to see a church with such a good congregation. Castelfranco Veneto is accessible by train from Venice.

There are only about eight paintings that everybody agrees were the work of Giorgione alone. In the little chapel on the right, here, you will find one of them - and it will take your breath away.

There's no charge. But please note that opening hours are limited. The church closes at noon for three or four hours.

The Duomo in itself isn't a great example of Catholic architecture, however, a real gem is inside it: the Giorgione pala, a huge painting that has been recently restored to its original magnificence.

We were inappropriate attired to enter the church, but stood at the door and looked in. It is quite lovely and has a fascinating history.
