Firstly I don't understand all the negative reviews as we had a fabulous time.

We had a lovely room on the 5th floor. It was overlooking the car park but the views beyond were spectacular; the sea, mountains and Altea old town. Room well equipped and very modern. Beautiful mural of Altea on the wall above the bed, comfy beds. We had the sun on our balcony all day. Room and hotel were spotlessly clean. Food was excellent. Loads of choice. Dining room a bit like a canteen. No dress code and bit of a free for all at times and quite noisy but no complaints about the standard of the food and hygiene. Drinks very reasonably priced. Bar area very welcoming and staff were friendly. There was a lovely seating area outside the bar and they even put blankets on the chairs out there so you could sit and enjoy the evening air. Pool area clean and well kept. Lots of sunbeds and seating. Loved the large wicker chairs and sofas overlooking the sea. Beautiful views across the sea. We didn't bother with the entertainment but did watch some of a flamenco show, which was ok. Free wifi - which worked well.

I thought the hotel was wonderful. There is some room for improvement but they seem keen to learn and welcome feedback. Reception staff were not very approachable and seemed to favour dealing with their own staff rather than the guests. Kept waiting on a couple of occasions. Maybe some improvement is needed in the dining area, not sure how but may be better in the hotter months when people can sit outside. Decide on a dress code too.

Surrounding area is beautiful. Orange groves over the road from the hotel. Great tram service 5 minutes away (we went to Calpe - worth a visit). Altea is beautiful, especially the old town. Wonderful atmosphere there. Lots of great eateries and some interesting shops. Sea front is fabulous too , with lots of restaurants and bars. Very clean everywhere. Tourist information very helpful and informative.

My only negative is that the hotel is on a main road. Obviously there is nothing they can do about that and you can't really hear the traffic in your room, unless you have the door open, but there is no proper footpath for part of the way into Altea and it is a very busy, fast road. We walked the long way round, which is up the road opposite the hotel. This road still has cars whizzing along it from time to time - people taking a short cut I think, even though it looks like a pedestrianized area. Or we walked along the beach front to Altea, which is hard work over all the pebbles!

Well worth a visit!

On arrival we were asked if we would like to upgrade to a sea view room, we did but we would have been better sticking to a superior room, as they seem to be better and although we had a nice view we had no afternoon sun on our balcony. The rooms are modern and clean. We found the bathroom a good size but not tiled just distressed emulsioned walls! We thought the food was good but most of the hot dishes were cold, and it could be quite chaotic in the evenings in the restaurant. It was handy having the tram train station just opposite the hotel to go up the coast to Calpe and Denia. We enjoyed Altea with its lovely old town and promenade which leads to Albir.

Altea area was lovely early sun 10 day break but this hotel disappoints because it has such a mixed usage from large sports and cycling groups to families and middle age couples and so it does not work. The floor with dining area is extremely noisy at all times as the entertainment and games room are adjacent -so the noise hits you when going into and out of dinner. Meals ok but all Luke warm. Our room had lovely view but the road is extremely noisy and spoilt the opportunity to sit out -even though we requested a quite room ahead. Would return to this area but not the hotel although the staff are very good.

Awesome hotel, very modern and right on the seafront. There is loads to do in the area. We went into Benidorm and rented quad bikes where we stopped off at the Altea Waterfalls. You can swim in the waterfalls and it is so beautiful. we went last year in early October and the weather was perfect sunny but not too hot. I would recommend for a relaxing short break.

Review of:

Hotel Cap Negret, Altea or rather Hotel Cap Regret

1 Star

My wife and I have just returned from an 11 night cycling holiday to the Hotel Cap Negret, Altea, booked through Jet2 Holidays. It was by far the worst holiday experience that we have had.

First the good points:
Good location, clean and spacious room, friendly and cheerful bar staff and waiters, secure bike storage, fantastic mountain cycling.

Now the bad:
We arrived at the hotel after travelling a full 12 hrs and having paid a not inconsiderable amount for our holiday and were greeted by the receptionist informing us that we had booked “a not very nice room” and for a nightly fee of 10 Euros he would upgrade us to a room with a “large, flat TV”. I informed him that firstly we were not interested in watching television and secondly that I did not remember booking “a not very nice room” and that I could not recall it even being an option. With that we proceeded to our room on the first floor and were delighted to find a clean and spacious room with a sunny west facing balcony which we believed would be very pleasant place to relax after a days cycling. We therefore unpacked our bags and went down to the bike garage to build our bikes. When we returned to our room landing we were greeted by up to around 30 German speaking boys of around 15/16 years of age shouting at the top of their voices and running around the oval shaped open landing, in and out of each others rooms, banging on and slamming doors and playing loud music. We went out onto the balcony to find that our room was in the middle of their large group and that they were hanging over their own balconies and across ours and shouting to their friends on other balconies. We quickly came in.

This noisy behaviour continued each night up until and after midnight, at which point they generally stayed in their own rooms but we could still clearly hear them. After three nights we were relieved to hear them leaving. However, when we returned from our daily bike ride we were disappointed to discover that another just as noisy group had arrived.

Over our 11 night holiday spanning two weekends approximately 6 large groups of up to 30 people each, from 16 year old boys clubs to male adult football clubs arrived and stayed in the hotel. We did speak to the boys in the next room to us on one side directly one night and asked for them to quieten down, which they did for a short period but if had little effect on their friends in other rooms.

One night, after the boys had finally quietened down, the footballers came back at around 3am and were very noisy, and just like the boys they also used the oval landing as a running track and were screaming and shouting at the top of their voices as they circled round the open landing.

We reported this behaviour the following morning and were initially told by one male receptionist that it was merely guests leaving. When we strongly told him that was not the case and a second staff member intervened and said that he understood the situation and would have a word. The footballers did quieten down after that night, but we were still awoken each night in the early hours by their return.

The hotel is made up of two wings, the one that we were in being the largest and directly over the evening entertainment room – which has a glass ceiling that formed the centrepiece of the rooms landing/running track. Despite never actually attending any evening entertainment we were clearly able to hear the music from our room on the first floor up until 12 midnight every night, and then beyond as the guests finished their drinks and headed to their rooms.

Owing to the constant refreshing of these large groups and coupled with the hotel entertainment we had constant noise every night and very little sleep.

This hotel obviously accepts large boys/mens groups and from the 6 or so groups that stayed at the hotel over our 11 night period it appears obvious that it is a regular occurrence, and as rooms appear to be allocated randomly it is possible that at any time some guests like ourselves may have the misfortune of being sited with these noisy groups. With that in mind, and the fact that this is not mentioned on your website I think that it is only fair that this review is published to inform people of the potential hazards of booking this hotel.

Foodwise, we found the restaurant food to be generally good, varied and plentiful although sometimes cool. We were always at breakfast early and never had to queue but on some mornings there was a queue to get in awaiting a vacant table. The restaurant opened at 19:30 for evening meals and we always joined the queue at around 19:15 to ensure that we got in for first sitting otherwise you would find yourself queuing until tables became available.

The room walls are very thin. We could clealy hear conversations, coughing, sneezing and the use of the bathrooms from adjacent rooms.

Overall I cannot understand how this hotel is awarded 4 stars, when clearly from our experience it is nothing more than a noisy hostel.

It has been the worst holiday experience that we have encountered.
