This is our first visit to this part of Macau, the old river front embarkment facing Zhuhai, China! Sofitel Macau at Ponte 16, an interesting name for hotel in this casino infested former Portugese enclave, is tucked away in older part of Macau, and away from the glittering part of casino town.

After an hour ferry ride from Hong Kong, we were a little disapointed with the pick up arrangement at the ferry pier; as we have to queue in cold and drizzle wet weather for a 16-seater hotel shuttle bus! Have to wait for almost 30 minutes to get on the second round of shuttle bus for pick up!

As we were in Macau not for the casino but food and relaxation, we booked ourselves an executive club room! The service at this moderate size French managed property is a class of its own when compare to the other hotels in Macau. While we were processing our checking detail, champagne and wine were free flowing. Club floor staff and hostess speak good English tinged with lttle French greeting, very European feel, I must say! We forgotten about the wait in cold and wet weather earlier after a couple of champagne!

A good recommendation from the club checkin desk staff name Mr. Good Speed; the room facing the river bank is better than the city view, mostly overlooking old, unsightly roof tops! The room charge include break fast, cocktail, champgne and afternoon tea (all you can drink and eat) and attentive staff looking after you during our 3-night stay, all that worth the extra room charge of club floor room! This is the most relaxing trip in Macau for us!

Room Tip: Non-smoking floor and facing the river! If budget allowed, go for the executive floor, you avoid the...

This is an extremely nice and stylish hotel at the quiet end of the main shopping street (Av. Almeida Ribeiro). The backside faces a canal about 300 mts. wide with mainland China on the other shore.

Rooms are extremely nice and well equipped.

Within a block, you can get a bus to most spots in Macau.

Room Tip: Request a room facing the back on a high floor

Bonjour BabiBagus,

It's very nice to hear such wonderful comments on TripAdvisor about your recent visit to Sofitel Macau at Ponte 16.

Thank you suggesting the peace and quiet of the water-front view to other travelers. In fact, the city view is also very nice if you like the twinkly lights from the Macau skyline, but then again, my choice is probably biased.

We appreciate your time in leaving your remarks and we hope to welcome you back one day to our unique water-front Sofitel Macau!

Yours sincerely,

M. Dirks

Bonjour Accorhotels traveler from Bangkok,

Glad to read about your sleeping experience at Sofitel Macau at Ponte 16!

The unique MyBed (TM) solution that Sofitel has in all its rooms is one of the best beds you will find in hotels ! We agree, it's like sleeping on a cloud. We can even customize the experience by offering you different kinds of pillows as well if you wish. Let us know next time you are in the hotel and need a pillow-menu.
