Nice hotel for couple to stay over...

Review of Wynn Macau
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 6 Dec 2012via mobile
Checked in this hotel couple times. This is always my first choice to stay in Macao with my girlfriend, we love the design of this hotel and the Chinese restaurant located next to the poker room(relocated recently) is the best in town. 158HKD for six dim sum which is a super value set lunch. The Red 8 restaurant also has the best bbq pork in town too. This hotel is located in the heart of the city, easy access everywhere to the peninsula of Macao. Staffs are helpful with the information we need....Great place for a weekend get away....

Dear Readers,

I am frequent guest at the Wynn Las Vegas, i go there for shows, clubs, restaurants etc and also stayed at the Encore numerous times.

I wanted to see for myself Macau as people named it the next gambling center and compared it to Vegas.

The Wynn in Macau aesthetically, amenities and room wise is identical to Las Vegas with all the features and everything you would expect back home however the main difference is primarily that in Vegas you can walk around for a stroll take pictures, have a coffee and hang out, people watch, and it feels spacious with a swimming pool and Macau is Completely 100% focused on gaming and pure gaming. Meaning that if you are not playing then your choices of things to do is very limited. All the shops in the casino are all the big name brands back home therefore that's nothing new. They built the hotel solely for gambling and that's it. I hung out at the poolside and had lunch there for comparison and it's not as big or spacious or does have the scene in Vegas.

Perhaps, since i have lived in Vegas, i arrived to Macau with all pre conceived notions and ideas - Macau is purely gambling and gambling ; higher minimums and limits than Vegas and all games available including Asian games, Baccarat is HUGE. There was a texas holdem room for those interested in Poker.

I will post pictures for people to see.

I spent a few hours here gambling and really enjoyed the slots and the very friendly staff. The facilities were Vegas quality and I would consider staying here next time I go to HK. The hydrofoil ferry to/from was very comfortable and first class was about $40 USD.

Room tip: The trip from HK takes about an hour so go early in the day or spend the night if you want to see the sights.

The wynn is definitely a cool hotel. The decor is quite fancy, in a showy way with bright colors. Yet it still has class. Defonitely one of the best hotels in macau. Bright colours and fancy brand names are not our cup of tea. But many people will like it. The rooms were big and the bathrooms were big and great. The rooms were clean and comfortable. I like bathrooms with two sinks.
When we went to airport they told us every fifteen minutes there is a bus to airport. There was long taxi line so we asked for bus. It took them 5min to check. Then they said it will take at least twenty minutes to arrive and it will stop.somewhere else for ten min. We think they talking bull. Very bad. ended up having to wait in long taxi line and pay more. Unfair. It is bad principle.

We stayed in the Wynn for 2 nights in November 2011. I have stayed in the Wynn in Las Vegas a few years ago and had a great experience. But this property is definitely not the same. The staff was rude and extremely unhelpful. We had asked specifically for a non smoking room, but the room we got smelt of smoke and we were told that guest tend to smoke in non smoking rooms and nothing can be done about it. The staff was competely unreceptive, with almost no help from he concreige for giving us basic directions around town. In fact, there was a clear bias in favor of Chinese guests who I guess is the target customer base. We decided to cancel our reservations and move to he Venetian for our last 2 nights in Macau. The only good thing about he whole experience was the excellent Italian restaurant, great food and service and the lights and sound show. So, if you are not Chinese, I would suggest stay at the Venetian and come to the Wynn for dinner at ristorante il teatro.

The Wynn macau is a very expensive hotel compared to the Wynn in Vegas. The room was big and nice and had every thing a 5 star hotel should. The bathroom was large, separate shower and tub and neat and clean. Amenities were nice. House keeping could not be faulted either.

The rest of the hotel is average. The service is at best indifferent if not poor in some aspects. The food is poor and not vegetarian friendly (4 options same at each restaurant). They have a chinese restaurant (dragon flower) fine dining which was frightfully expensive but exceptionally bad food (reviewing that one separately). One coffee shop by the swimming pool and two other eating options around the gaming tables. The coffee shop vegetarian food was what was available in every other restaurant.

There is not much to do other than gamble at this hotel. The water fountain show is nice and is done every fifteen minutes. The Spa is very nice and truly luxury. The massage was excellent - one of the top 10 I have ever had. The steam and other common areas of the spa were outstanding as well. I took the 90 minute macanese massage - their local speciality and recommend it highly. I am told the encore spa is more private with each room having their own steam showers etc. Dint really try it.

The gaming floor is probably just like most hotels of this standard in Macau.

The location of this hotel though is quite nice - short walk from MGM, the bar strip and lisboa and a bunch of other hotels I had never heard of. The bar strip is not much to talk about and has about a dozen bars and restaurants which are just ok. The hotel some how tells you to takle a cab when you can get there in a less than 10 minute walk. Across the street from this hotel are also some shops (duty free I think) that sell alcohol cheaper than the bars in the hotels do. Some one I met at the gaming floor told me most people buy booze and drink in their rooms instead of at the bar. The whiskey served while playing is of poor quality.

Room tip: Try and get a room on a higher floor which faces the sea for a good view and if you have trouble with cigarette smoke - insist on a smoke free floor - big big problem with stale smoke
