This is a beautiful are to wonder about in Macau. There is so much more than just the ruins. If you stick simply to the ruins, you are missing out. Head to the right of the ruins and there are gardens, massive aged trees, and a walk up to the Macau museum that has greenery, and great sights. We also got to see a lot of the local elderly folk getting about with their different exercises, including a group of elderly women learning pairs dancing and another group doing tai chi. It was marvellous to behold.
The food and shops around here are good also, but if food isn't really on your agenda, I would suggest heading here nice and early in the morning. Macau sleeps in, so the shops and what not don't really open until 10.30am-11am at the earliest. If you get here by 8am or 9am, you will miss the bulk of the tourists and get to wonder and take in the sights without the noise and hustle bustle.
