“Hard Rocks!”
Reviewed 27 January 2012

Hard Rock in macau taipa is part of the city of dreams and crown hotel. All these places are inter connected. HArd ROck is a beautiful looking building specially in the night. It is opposite the huge venetian and galaxy sites. But hard rock has its own charm. The rooms are good and contemporary. Infact every experience at hard rock is cool. The casino is extremely classy and fun. In fact its modern and new and a tad cheaper than the venetian casino. Less Crowded too.
The level 1 gaming is also very good. The entire access to city of dream is a huge advantage. City of dreams is good for shopping and the hugely popular water dancing show.

We spent a night at the hotel for my birthday to catch the House of Dancing Water show in July 2011 (we came over from Hong Kong).

The hotel is located is the City of Dreams casino/mall, so very central. It's a new hotel so very modern, although despite the Hard Rock theme, it didn't feel very rock and roll to be honest (it just felt like any other big chain hotel). Check in was a bit slow. The room was decent - modern and clean but nothing special - very forgettable. The day we were staying there was a night time event at the pool which meant it was closed. We attended the party which was good fun, although the trade off was that the pool was closed the next day. We'd been looking forward to using the pool and there had been no forewarning at the time of booking, which is a shame as it looked very nice. We were able to use the neighbouring hotel's pool, although it wasn't as nice (just a very boring pool). We didn't eat at the hotel, so I can't comment on the food (to be honest, there didn't see to be many options - we went over to Venetian instead). We walked through the casino area but this didn't seem very exciting.

If and when I go back to Macau, I'll be trying out a different hotel. I wouldn't particularly recommend it, aside perhaps from the pool.

A nearly brand-new property, not quite a "hard rock" establishment yet - the Cafe is yet to open and there is still interior building work going on - but as a hotel they have got it very right so far.

We had no problem locating the free shuttle from the temporary ferry terminal. The ferry staff said "you'll see them" and we did. Flags, colour coded buses and staff to corral us on board right outside the terminal doors. And the free shuttle was just that - no tip baskets to be seen.

The staff are attentive, helpful and knowledgeable about their property and, of course, Macau. There was not a single staff member that we came across that we could be anything but extremely complimentary about - and let me tell you I have never has a room orientation lesson like the one I got here! The bell-person was just great.

Our room was a "corner-suite" (in around building!), an upgrade courtesy of our All Access membership. Notwithstanding that I had booked the suite on a website special (at an excellent rate - grab it if you can) the check-in agent advised me, unbidden, that she had changed my rate to the correct (lower) rate.

And a magnificent room it was - views across to old town one way and the new airport the other. Acres of space in the separate bedroom and lounge spaces. Wonderful rainfall shower and excellent amenities. Loved it all.

We were not overly enamoured by the Cotai precinct - as opposed to the old town area - but in time it will get better.

The hotel provides an extensive and frequent shuttle bus service to all parts of Macau - as if Macau taxis are not cheap enough!

Again, as a hotel - great, as a Hard Rock - no idea yet, but good enough that we will be quite happy to stay again on our next trip to Macau.

Footnote - not a hotel issue per se, but there are a large number of prostitutes on the road between the Hard Rock and the Venetian - they don't bother people (yet) - although some are making their way into the casinos in a very obvious way. Clean them up or your trade will suffer.

Room Tip: As per usual, the higher the better and grab a "corner" suite.

Well, the rooms are well themed and gives a very luxurious feel when in it. Got a room with nice view of Ventian and the strip. Casino was one of the best I've seen. The uniforms of the staffs are quite interesting, differs from the typical hotel uniforms.

The main reason that we decided to stay at the Hard Rock Hotel in Macua was because it was part of a package deal with the Dancing Water Show. We had to pay for the room and show ahead of arrival and had specified that we needed two (2) beds in the room. All of these arrangements were handled through Eliza at the Hard Rocks guest services department. At check-in we were told that we had a beautiful King room with one bed. We said that was a problem and the hotel said if we wanted 2 beds we would need to pay an additional amount. We balked at this and asked them to send Eliza out so that we could straighten this matter promptly. She never came out but they did end up giving us a room with 2 beds but they made us secure the room with a deposit (in addition to our payment) of $1000 HKD or $130 USD.

The room was nice but nothing that differentiates it from any other hotel. The beds were comfortable; the bathroom was split with the toliet separate from the shower and sink area. The view from the room (we were on the 20th floor) was pretty sweet at night.

The restaurant on the ground level was not impressive. I had an underwhelming Chicken Caesar salad with a dressing that was definitely not like any Caesar dressing that I have ever had. My friend ordered the Mozzerella Sticks and they came with BBQ sauce, needless to say she wasn't a fan. The restaurants service was lacking also.

There really wasn't any "nightlife" at this hotel. It is in a complex with 2 other hotels (Grand Hyatt and Crown) so if you wanted to walk to find some entertainment it wasn't that difficult.

With all of that said, if push came to shove, I would stay there again. Hope this helps someone.
