Reasonable value, helpful staff

Parts of this hotel are bright and new, and others in serious need of a refit. Presumably the price you pay determines the age of your room. My stay was in the bottom range rooms and they were ok, but plumbing had some serious problems.

The staff are friendly and very helpful.

The breakfast (included) was good, with a variety of choices.

I stayed here for one night at a rate of 706 baht incl. breakfast through Agoda. Reception area quite impressive but bedroom a little disappointing. First sight of my bed revealed a brown stain which was quite off-putting. However, on closer inspection I think it was an ironing burn. Bed was reasonably comfortable and bathroom had hot water. I found ants around my toothpaste in the morning. On the night of my stay a group of Thais moved into some adjacent rooms and, as Thais do, they used the corridor as a common room and shouted to each other from their respective rooms. Thais do this...I live in a condo block in Chonburi. Breakfast was on the third floor and I found a good selection of Asian and "farang" food well presented. Conclusion...a busy hotel in a busy border city. At the price it wasn't too bad for one night. Nothing to write home about though.

OK I did not stay in this hotel, but I just checked it out and was showed to the all hotel. What did struck me when I entered the parking, lobby and later the tower is .... is this really a new hotel? Or an renovated hotel?

It is located just outside the city centre and has two buildings. The front building has about 4 floors and houses the cheaper rooms of 750 Thai baht. The second building is an high tower of about 15 floors and houses the "better" rooms starting at 950 Thai baht. Prices are incl. breakfast buffet. Rooms look good and modern decorated in natural style with wooden floors.

But looking a bit better the furniture does not look new .... I am wrong?

Well still I think a good price for the kind rooms and if you are staying on the higher floors you will have a great view over the Mekong river and Laos. The staff was friendly and service minded.

I had the pleasure to stay at this hotel for two nights while n Mukdahan mid-January 2012. What a beautiful brand new hotel and while construction was not yet complete, this will surely be one of the best hotels in Isaan. Rooms are extremely large with a small tiled balcony. Hartadwood floors in the rooms add a nice touch and certainly beats the usual tiled floors that are found throughout Thailand. Staff are extremely friendly and the hotel manager speaks beautiful English. Excellent location for walking to the Indochina Market and local attractions. Ample free parking. I look forward to staying at River City again.

Room tip: Ask for a room with a view of the Mekong

The original River City Hotel where I stayed in a standard room, for 3 nights in early December 2011, sits right in front (shared entry lobby and reception area) of a 15 storey brand new hotel with a revolving restaurant on top.

Opening for the new River City Hotel is early 2012 but I'm not sure if this means the older section is due for demolition or renovation.

The older rooms are still nice with solid timber floors and lovely furniture. The bathrooms have good hot water and the Air Conditioning and refrigerator were all working well. Limited english channels on the cable TV though but enough to get some news and entertainment.

Nikorn Bikes is directly opposite the hotel and rents good mountain bikes at reasonable prices. They asked 150 baht per day for a well maintained Japanese imported bike but accepted 350 baht for 3 days.

Room tip: The rooms available for the remainder of 2011 into early 2012 are the older standard rooms. I have room 410 which was on the top of the old building with a view of the main road. Ask for a room with a window and city view. The sunlight through the windows at sunrise is greater than the curtains can handle, a natural way to wake though.
