We read the reviews and I agree that this is not 5star it's rustic food but it's a lovely experience as long as you are not fussy and don't mind walking in the dark down a steep hill in the dark. Good shoes and a torch are a necessity. Enjoy!

We went as a family to this restaurant 2 meat eaters 2 vegans called 2 hours before to confirm if they had anything suitable for vegans.

Drive to Sonama and lark where you can.
DO NOT FOLLOW YOUR SAT NAV AFTER THIS. IT IS NOT ACCESSIBLE BY CAR. ASK A LOCAL FOR DIRECTIONS.
What a treat for all. 6 courses of amazing food for all of us. You don't get a choice. Don't fill up on bread and first course as the food just keeps coming as well as water and wine. CASH only so take some with you. Fantastic value for money.

What a wonderful experience! Yes, it is challenging to find it and it involves a little hike. It makes it all the more rewarding to sit outside with a great view of the lake and experience the waves of great food and the wonderful hosts. We chose to eat outside but you can also eat inside the rustic house. Definitely a highlight of our trip!

A friend told us about this place and we emailed them to make a booking before we left Australia to make a reservation. It was a bit hard to find, but we were told to head up a trail towards the Church of Santa Maria. When we arrived we were warmly greeted by Angela who told us that they don't usually open during the week at this time of year, but she said to her father who cooks everything 'these people are coming from Australia to eat here so we have to open'. The food is exceptional, and it just keeps coming, as does the wine. It's traditional Italian home cooking, and it's great, as is the view of the lake. All of this and exceptional service from Angela at a great price. If you are anywhere neat Mandello del Lario make sure you eat here, you won't be disappointed. It's the best meal we've had in our month of travel.

After reading all the other reviews we had high expectations. But the food was indeed incredible and Angela warm and welcoming.

We headed out to the restaurant a little after sunset, which I wouldnt recommend as going up the hill we were able to appreciate the amazing VIEW. This is a place that you want to get to before the sun begins setting.

The course meal is set and even though we forgot to mention one of our friends was vegetarian, they were able to immediately accommodate her by substituting her dishes with equally as delicious options.

As everyone else has said, the place is impossible to find. We highly recommend taking a taxi that will drop you off at the start of the trail, otherwise you will get lost.
