“a wee bit more attention and this can be a hot property”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 February 2012

It is a great property; but a bit run down. And all it needs a bit more investment and attention and it can be hot! We stayed there for 3 nights and really enjoyed it. We had an extended studio chalet, close to the beach and it had a King size bed + one more for my daughter. The accommodation was clean, but there was no phone to contact for room service or reception; the room turn-over needed follow-up; breakfast was hardly there, if you are a bit late in to the breakfast hours; and so was dinner; there are no eating joints immediately outside the property.
On the brighter side, it was nice and quiet, reasonably good beach (though the seasn we went was not ideal); a reasonably good and an affordable 18 hole golf course. A korean couple has now taken over running of this golf course and that shuld mean that the place will start getting busier with korean tourists.

I stayed here with my family of four in a two bedroom room facing the swimming pool. We came to KR so that my older son and I could go saltwater fishing. This hotel was recommended in two fishing magazine articles, and by the fishing outfitter, so it must be the best in KR. It has potential--it is right on the beach, there is an 18 hole golf course next door and the pool is designed well. The staff was friendly and helpful. But the rooms and facilities are just not in good shape.

I would rate this hotel as a three star hotel by American standards (maybe two and one-half). It is adequate for "the boys" for a fishing trip. And it is not expensive. But if I go back to KR, I will send my wife to a 5 star resort or hotel in KL, Singapore, etc. instead while I go fishing.

One tip--the hotel is isolated. So, I recommend that you stop at a store on your way there and stock up on essentials (bottled water, snacks, wine, toiletries, etc.). And bring mosquito spray.

Last, I am told that new owners purchased the hotel less than a month ago, so perhaps they will make improvements.

I arrived with very low expectations, hearing from others that the rooms were shabby and old. The rustic atmosphere is often a euphemism for a rather rundown resort. Hence, I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived at my Garden Chalet #601 and found it fairly clean (I could walk barefoot on the wooden floors without any gritty sand underneath), and equipped with toiletries, lots of cushions on the sofa, a flat screen TV, and plenty of coffee and tea. There are 2 BR in #601, one with a double bed, and the other with 2 singles. Both have en suite bathrooms and the room with the 2 single beds had an outdoor (but enclosed for privacy!) shower.

This was reminiscent of villas in Bali and demonstrates the efforts they are making to upgrade themselves. Nonetheless, this review has to take into account the experience of my fellow travellers. One couple staying in the "Honeymoon Suite" found they had no flat screen TV, but only a flat TV stand. I suppose they figured honeymooners would have no desire to watch TV...? 3 other chalets found they had no hot water the entire week.

The reviews of those staying in the hotel was not promising either. One party spotted a large cockroach in the room. Another guest found a cockroach in the kettle. The sheets were rather worn and the towels, though clean, had seen better days. The pool was suspiciously tinged green, though the water smelled/tasted fine. They did run out of pool towels by the second day our group was there, and the wash and dry cycle took too long for them to supply any towels thereafter.

The resort is a fair distance away from any shopping center, or any other restaurants. So do be prepared to be at the mercy of the resort's chefs. They do a decent job, but not worth any particular mention. It's a good 5hours from Johor Bahru. This is a place to consider if you want a retreat from city life. There are plenty of stars to spot, and you can hear the waves crash on the sand. I would only consider staying at the Garden Villas though, and bring p.l.e.n.t.y. of mozzie repellant.

We arrived at Serai di lanjut after 4 hours driving from JB. We were given the extended chalet #708 for RM345 a day. The chalet is a dissapointment for the rates that we have paid and after the long hours of driving and seeing the condition of the chalet we were so dissapointed that none of us said anything. It was already dark and we were too tired to drive or else we would have just return the key and search for other place to stay. For a 3 star resort and the rates we paid this is what we received:
- chalet was not cleaned. The kitchen has some bits of pieces of something like dried sea food leftovers..could be left there by animals not sure
- floor was not cleaned...
- windows and curtains were dusty...the curtain looks like it is time to change with some of the curtain falling off the railings already
- one of the celling light not working and the light were also covered by dust...you can actually see it when you lie down on the beds. It makes the room were dark and gloomy
- the bed lamp also full of dust and the shade is torn and broken...
- the extended room fan was not working. We made a complain and they put up a standing fan for us.
- the tv was not working...we complained and they did some repair..it works but no volume...sigh...
- the bathroom door can't be closed!!!!. The bathroom is really old and the toilet can't be flushed properly. You got to fill some water to actually make the flush to work.
- you can see extention cables in the chalet and the some portruding wires around. Very dangerous for small children.
Overall we were so dissapointed as we were really looking for a relaxing weekend after the long hours drive. From the web it is said that this place is the best in Rompin but we did'nt get that...what a first time experince in Rompin.

To be fair, we did not stay in the hotel room or the new built up chalet ...so for those that would like to visit this place...please do not stay at any of the chalet unless you can visit it first before you agree to take it up. cheers.

School holidays are here and i had to find somewhere to take the kids for a trip. I wanted to go either to penang or langkawi but my wife said she will have none of that. Too crowded and overpriced for her liking (during school hols) So after some intense searching (mind you its 1 week before the holiday starts) i found this newly acquired and refurbished hotel by the saujana group.

i wanted to get the 2 bedroom garden villa but it was fully booked and we had to settle for 2 lanai rooms (not connecting rooms) after specifically requested during booking (i also reconfirmed with them a couple of days before about the 2 connecting rooms) nevermind the setback, ill try to have a good time!

once arrived i was surprised by the minimalist front desk, then was in suspense as we headed to our rooms. the walkway to our was reminisince of old 80s hotels (lime stained red brick walkway). i was hoping for the best at that time. entered the room i was a little bit happy. Its new, clean, neat, comes with a king and a sofa bed, has nicely parquet floor and Wifi. but the wardrobe stinks, phone out of order (both rooms, their excuse was it was never in working condition !!!) towels old and stained, floor mat stained and worst of all water pressure is very low and hot water flow is irregular. The upstairs flooring was so thin we could hear the people upstairs walk and move their stuffs)

Then i noticed that there is No room service menu in the room but i found out that you have to call the bistro to bring it to you (mind you the phone not working !!) had to walk there and get the menu myself. room service spread was good, and tastes good also.

Breakfast is bad, very bad. the only good thing was toast & watermelon. One of the worst hotel breakfast i've ever had. The water in the swimming pool is cloudy and towels are not readily available (have to wait). The beach is a short walk from the room. It is a nice looking beach with golden sands But rubbish was everywhere (dead foliage, wood, Glass, Floats, etc)

From my observation the villas looks nice but the chalet is rubbish (very tired looking). Our room was satisfactory but could have been better.(attention to detail & improved quality) BUT the kids just love the beach and the pool and surprisingly the hotel itself. looks like i have to come here again then for the school holidays and its not to crowded too. Before i forget they have 18 hole golf course here too (next time ill bring my golf set)
