For the price I paid my expectations were not high. The resort didn't even meet my low expectations. This hotel is a work in progress. It is opened recently so there are lots of things to iron out. Our time period was on sale at presumably half the regular price, We would have really been upset if we would have paid the full price. In general the place is clean and most of the staff are friendly. the rooms are clean and spacious. The pools are clean and big, although there is no beach, the resort is an ocean front so if you are a good swimmer you could jump for a swim in a very clear deep waer. But that is as far as it goes. The buffet is small for the number of guests, variety of food is nothing to compare even with a three stars resort. They were always behind in replenishing the supply and most of the time a long line of guests. The staff is rushed to accommodate the number of guests, and seems to be in chaotic state serving clients. First time in my life I was told " if you finished to leave the restaurant to make room for other guests". There are not enough/ shady areas and enough seats around the pools or the sandy areas where people could lay down. I had to get up by 6:30 in the morning to secure a place, even then the choices were very limited. There is only one toilet for men and another one for ladies, so be prepared to wait in line hoping you can make it in time. The lobby cannot hold more than 15 guests so it might get really crowded if there are a number of people checking in or out. We usually go for two weeks vacations at a time, but one week was more than enough for us at this resort. There is no night entertainment so you have to spend the evening gazing at the TV or your tablet, or play games with friends or on your computer or drinking the low quality drinks at the bar. One advantage is that the Internet is free and available in most places at the resort.

They charge $ 15 for the room safe per week which is not unreasonable. This resort is as basic as you would experience at par with Cuban resorts. Another problem guest encounter is the very limited space for waiting guest who arrive on overnight flights or waiting to leave for their airplane on their way home, sometime for 8 to 10 hours. Sometime there is absolutely not even seats to sit. Drinks are of low quality even if you tip the bar tender. The low price attracted Russian and east European and very few north Americans. Don't be surprised to see guests spitting by the walkways.

This is my lowest rating I have ever given to any resort and will not be back or recommend it to anyone.

Beautiful hotel for rest and relaxation. We loved the beach atmosphere even though the hotel was right on the ocean. We weren't sure what we would think of this style of hotel but as it turns out we LOVED it! We were there March 21-28th 2018.

Hotel - clean, new beds and pillows, grounds were immaculate. Always had hot water and air conditioning was fabulous.

Staff - Some of the best we have ever seen. The desk staff were amazing. We saw them deal with some arrogant and rude guests on a few occasions and the staff were calm and dealt with things calmly and with class. Omar and Deauberto at the bar will fix you great drinks. Jenny and Laponte in the dining room will keep you smiling and make you feel like family.

Pools- clean and very warm. Most are infinity pools which was amazing to be sitting in while watching the sun go down. The pools are built directly into the coral. It was a superb setting for our relaxing holiday.

Beach - man made surrounding pools- Fantastic. You would never know that you weren't right on the beach. there are lots of pool chairs. Now, we were there the 3rd week of March so it was fairly busy. We never were without chairs even if we had to search out a few to put together and the security staff were always very helpful to move chairs for anyone. The "beach area" was immaculately clean. If you like long walks on the beach everyday this may not be the resort for you. Or maybe floating in the ocean may be a nice alternative! For me instead of the long walk I did yoga instead.

Ocean- step off the steps right into the clear blue ocean. Explore the rock formations and go snorkling. Floating in the ocean was the most peaceful feeling. We weren't sure what we would think about not having direct beach access. We absolutely loved it. We spent more time in the ocean this trip than any other we have been on.

Public Beach shared by hotel- There is a shuttle bus every half hour or it is a confusing half hour walk to the public beach. We had to rent chairs and an umbrella. There is no hotel beach club at the public beach so you have to pay for food and drinks. There are no public bathrooms or change rooms. Our teens did lots of shopping in the beach front flea market which they really enjoyed. There were a few land sharks after our girls which was new to them. They both handled it really well even when the Sharks didn't back off when they said they were underage. Mom and Dad were never too far away. The beach itself is dirty and there is trash all over the beach area. We stayed for two hours and then took the shuttle back to the hotel. On the weekends the beach is over crowded and full of fun and excitement but no relaxation. We are not beach people so were very happy to stay at the "Beach" at the hotel which was relaxing and immaculately clean.

Food - Fantastic. Lots of it but the kitchen is not opulent and wasteful like other hotels. They provide really good chicken, beef and pork. My husband is a butcher, also know as a meatatarian and he was in heaven. Our 15 year old daughter is a vegetarian (Go figure) and she had so many different choices she was thrilled. 90% of people would never eat this well at home! Homemade breads and pastries, an omelette bar and the best cheese in the world. Nacho night was a HUGE hit with our girls, the homemade guacamole was really good.

Snack shack - WOW! Best burgers ever! My husband is a butcher so he should know. LOL The pizzas were fantastic and our girls created a new meal at 3 PM called PizzaNow. Chicken wings and fried were great too.

Sushi restaurant - wonderful food and experience. We are not sushi eaters but this was a lot of fun and the food was great. It was an extra charge as it is not included but it was very much worth it.

A la Carte - We didn't make it to this one. Everyone we talked to said they had a good experience. It is overlooking the ocean and is so very romantic and intimate as the sun is setting. There are limited tables so book early if you can.

Pool Bar- Great drinks of all kinds. Our 15 year old girls could not get alcohol which was very much appreciated of us as parents. We brought insulated steel cups with us so that we could avoid using the tiny plastic cups which are such an environmental nightmare especially being so close to the ocean. Some of the guests from other countries looked at us with disdain and there were comments about Americans and our "cups" but the joke is we are Canadians and we care about the environment so we didn't pay those other guests much attention. The All inclusive drink service ends at 11:00 PM. alcohol after this time must be purchased. We liked this idea and it resulted in a very nice calm atmosphere at night without drunken guests yelling and carousing. This hotel is all about quiet relaxation and they do an amazing job.

Entertainment- Animation staff provide water aerobics, yoga, beach volleyball and dance lessons. They are not pushy at all. There are no night shows or entertainment. Only PURE calm and relaxation. Truly a hotel to leave the world behind for a while. The only thing we missed that other hotels have were a ping pong table and a billiards table.

Amenities - There is no Sundry shop at the hotel but it is only a 5 minute very safe walk in to town during the day or night. With our two 15 year old girls we felt very comfortable going into to town at night for meals at restaurants. For souvenirs I would highly recommend the Bazar Shop as you first get into town on the right hand side. Best prices and best service. Very honest and that comment should speak volumes.

restaurant in town you MUST eat at --- KUKU and CECE! The owners where a lot of fun and the food was out of this world! Please see our pictures.

Excursions- Lots of them from horse back riding to zip lining. We chose the Sonoa Island Catamaran cruise which we booked with Francisco at the Public Beach. We would highly recommend booking this excursion with Francisco at the beach. He wears a company T-shirt that has the #26 on the back. We paid $40 US per person instead of the $75 US that the hotel was charging for the exact same tour.

This hotel is for those that want peace and quiet. If you really need to get away from stress and the world this is the place to do it. We would absolutely return to this hotel in an instant. The weather was amazing and we will never forget our time at this resort. After having been on 19 All Inclusives this is one of our favourites.

the stay was pretty okay the rooms were nice this staff member that works at the buffet named jenny is very good and nice to talk to, another two staff members named Jamie and libanesa are very fun and energetic because they started up volley ball every day and showed us how to dance. Also we liked how every day at the buffet was a different type of meal. but some bad parts were that Its super hard to understand some of the none English speaking staff and it drove us crazy!. but other then that it is pretty okay house cleaning staff can do a better job they did not removed dirty dishes and empty bottles from bathroom line up at the two bars can be very long waiting volly ball court need more sand lots of fine stones

Room Tip: Building one is very nice

A BIG THANK YOU for taking care of me and my boyfriend. We just spent one night and was more than enough to see how wonderful was the property and the staff.
We had a room on the 4th floor, amazing views, and we had dinner at Tracadero, the place right next to the hotel, beautiful spot as well.
We highly recommend this property for couples and families!
Super clean, well maintained and beautiful pools!
Breakfast is great as well!
THANK YOU WHALA BAYAHIBE for being such a great host!

Gema

Room Tip: 4th and 5th floor have an amazing view of the beach!

We were at Whala Bayahibe from Mar 2nd - Mar 9th. Overall we had a great time!!!
The food was ok, nothing spectacular, we never went hungry, there was lots of salads & fruits that I liked. There was variety every day & the staff in the restaurant were very helpful. Jenny is very pleasant and accommodating. By the pool, we got pizza & fish & chips or chicken & chips. The wait time was not that long & if you are nice to the staff, they will do things faster for you. We ate by the beach one evening , they had the same menu as the buffet. There was not much entertainment at night except for the dancing. It was good value for the price that we paid.

Now, I have to tell you about the cons...when we checked in, we asked for two rooms side by side as I had my elderly aunt with me, but they put us in rooms in TWO DIFFERENT buildings!!! They did not have the courtesy to tell us that we were in different buildings. They said that we will be moved to be beside each other the next morning. At night, there were lots of little bugs that would come up from the drainage system into our sink & shower. When we asked to be moved out of that room & beside my aunt the next morning, they said that nothing was available!!! In the mean time my
aunts bathroom was plugged, so there was water all over the floor every day. On the third day her sewer system was totally blocked & there was this awful smell coming & when they were notified... they sent five people to fix the problem from the inside & outside. We all finally got moved to a different building, while our rooms were on thesame floor, they were NOT beside each other...that was ok because by now our expectations had changed. The next night - March 5th there was no water in the taps, so I called them at 2.00am & notified them, and they said that they were working on it.
When we got up at 6.00 am to go on a excursion, there was still NO water in the taps!!!
There was NO water in other buildings too.
This sums up what you can expect at the resort. The worst part is the reception staff giving us the run around.
