Just returned from a week at this hotel. We were a little apprehensive when we received notification the spa was not going to be ready and the hotel refurbishment was still “in progress” but our stay was superb. We very rarely book package holidays but wanted a week in the sun and therefore on this occasion broke with tradition. I am disappointed therefore that Jet2.com didn’t offer some recompense ( which I am sure they will have negotiated and kept, if their procurement team are doing their jobs) for the lack of the spa. If I was booking direct I would have made some effort but sometimes life’s too short and it was a minor irritant.

That said, having stayed in Tenerife on business on many occasions staying at some excellent hotels including the Sir Anthony, Bahia del Duque, Gran Tacande and others, I found the Sabila to be excellent. The decor, calmness, food, room, beds, pool and “Star Prestige” areas were without fault barring a couple of minor”snagging” problems one would expect after any refurbishment. The main pool area is excellent and the pool was warm, there were plentiful sun beds and towels with staff always on hand to help. It was also spotlessly clean and plenty of space to relax. Breakfast was a joy every morning and the choice incredible. Perhaps more importantly was the attentiveness of the staff. From reception to cleaners and maintenance, the guys around the pool, the waiters and bar staff, we didn’t encounter a single grump! A hand rail by the stairs to the roof top pool area would be useful as too much free Tattinger can be dangerous!
Overall, once the spa and other bits are finished, it more than deserves its rating and the management should be congratulated on running an excellent establishment.

To be honest, I wasn't sure on arrival whether this hotel was for me. It seemed so clinical and the lighting very bright in the restaurant. Didn't seem to have any personality. Clarinet playing at breakfast is probably not the most relaxing wake-up call I have ever had. I stayed the 2nd week of opening and there was a lot of snagging and building work still going on around the pool. I got stuck in the shower as the door wouldn't open. I was very upset as I am a single traveller, but the Manager upgraded me to use Prestige facilities. Tattinger champagne at lunch time,.... very nice. This hotel is a 5 star. It has grown on me and having looked in some of the other surrounding hotels, makes them look very dated in comparison. Each day, little things have been added to make the stay more pleasureable and you can't fault the staff. They have been friendly and attentive and have a real pride in the hotel. This is a learning curve for them as well and the hotel will grow as they get feedback from customers. Need to liven up the evening entertainment a bit as I saw a few of our guests watching the shows in other hotels. A nice gift shop would be nice as well. Food is beautifully presented , a gastronomic delight. I met some lovely people on the trip who knew the hotel before it was refurbished and we can quite categorically say we are coming back again next year. Thank you Iberostar for a fabulous holiday,

Room Tip: The 5th and 6th floor are the prestige rooms but you pay a premium

A beautifully refurbished hotel which is in a great location. I guess it is to be expected that there are teething problems when a hotel opens afresh. But stop making the same mistakes! Just how difficult is it to refresh toiletries and other supplies in the bedroom?

Hotel is 3 star star at best

Stayed here for 9 nights a week after the hotel reopened- Sadly it was not finished yet and some staff had no understanding of what 5 star service should be.

Some of the issues encountered

Shower that not only leaks across the bathroom but also the bedroom

Shower seal fixed so well cannot open the shower door

Safe that could not be opened, already locked before checking into the room. Took 3 requests to reception to get this sorted

Rooms coffee maker was for decoration only

Pool bar not opened initially

Pool heating broken for half of stay

Hotel room doors all slammed shut, only way to ensure they lock but so noisy

Building work continuing whilst there, builders started their drilling just before 8am below the balcony

Work around the pool with continual banging whilst removing some tiles

Spa not even built yet

These are just the highlights, but this was not the relaxing stay that was desired and to top it off some of the staff were ineffectual, especially the Manager (who I am guessing was only an assistant and straight out of training)

Had wanted a change from normal hotel in a slightly different area, but will be going back to Sir Anthony - a real 5 star hotel!!!
