Usually when I go to Watamu I rent a house for my family and therefore we have the privacy and personal space. So I was reluctant to book an all inclusive hotel. I was pleasantly surprised by the experience at Jumbo Watamu. Like many places in Watamu the hotel caters mainly to Italians but of course all are welcome and much of everything is done in Italian but you will always find many who speak English or French. The resort has such a wonderful staff that are attentive to you from the moment you walk in until you leave. From the kitchen staff to the Italians and Kenyans that are hired to organise activities, these people are so nice, cheerful and fun. The hotel has two pools, volleyball courts, table tennis, and other activities that you can participate in if you want to. They have their own beach plot and depending on the tides it is quite nice to swim in, in any case it's beautiful just to sit back and look at. Not the best strip of beach in Watamu but enjoyable. As much as the guards on the beach try there are some "beach boys" who tend to offer you all sort of things, they are a real nuisance but like I said they get chased off if a tourist looks like they are bothered. I've read the reviews about the music being played on the beach and yes they do play music from morning until early evening on the beach, it's the kind of music my 14 year old loves, my easy solution to this was my iPod!
The rooms are simple but nice with a balcony and most have a view of the Ocean. There is a little fridge, air condition and a small fan. No t.v, but hey you are at the beach, time to cut off!
I would definitely recommend the hotel and the price is unbeatable compared to other all inclusive hotels on the north coast, and the staff definitely score points and make you want to come back.
Thanks to everyone at Jumbo Watamu for taking such good care of us.

Hello,

According to what you're looking for, this place might deserve five stars or only one...

Let me try to explain my mind and start with the (very) positive points. The local people working at this place are really kind and friendly. I could say more and more, but trust me, this is one of the best place for smiles and kindness.

The food is good, fresh and so are the drinks. Maybe too much of italian style food but it's mainly because most clients are italians (we were the only two french guys this week)

The two days safari was a unique experience. We could see almost all the wild animal you could name, except rhinos that are more and more rare and hard to see. A bit expensive (about 250 euros) but worth it. save money !

Now the (very) negative point in MY opinion. I insist on that point this is my opinion and you might not share it but if you do, you might choose another place (I'll name it later). This resort shares a part of the beach with another hotel which is close to it. But they don't share music... so on the beach, you have to listen to the music of BOTH hotels... plus "animations", etc... This is really annoying and unacceptable.
When i'm on holidays at the sea side, i expect to ear the sound of the waves, the wind in the trees, the birds… and honnest, i HATE the music (what they call music) on the beach. Techno, disco, R&B... italian disco... yeark... For me, "music" on the beach is just like POLLUTION for my ears.

So, we had to run away from 10 to 12 then from 15 to 18... and (try to) find a quiet place on the beach somewhere else...

The chance we had is we found a calm hotel about 500 meters away that was very clean. We have been kindly received by the manager (John) when we asked him if we could stay on the beach in front of his hotel (semi-private) and he kindly said yes... (really nice and friendly)... which is NOT the case of "Claudio" the manager of "our" hotel. When we complained to him about the music on the beach he just ignored us and told us << "people" like it that way, sorry if you don't >>. This guy is italian, so I guess he does not care about french guys ? by the way he was really UNfriendly and we were really upset when getting out of his desk.

The name of the "quiet" place is "TWIGA RESORT", and i would recommend it IF you're looking for a quiet place (and the manager is so friendly !)

If you don't mind about LOUD and BAD music on the beach, you may enjoy this place...

But again, local people working here are really cool and friendly. Everything would have been fine (*****) except the music on the beach (*)

(sorry for the approximative english, i'm a french guy !)

Roland, Paris, France.

Great food, friendly manager and staff, well kept hotel with traditional decor. I was impressed with the long bougainvillea covered walkway from the hotel reception to the dinning area which was quite unique. This hotel has stunning views of the sea and one of the best beaches and clear aquamarine waters in the region.
