Description: Bates Restaurant, the award winning restaurant located in the picturesque town of Rathdrum, in the heart of Co Wicklow. The restaurant is popular with locals and tourists for traditional and innovative European cuisine. The menu offers a variety of Steaks from the Char-Grill, Surf and Turf as well as a range of chicken, duck, venison and pork dishes. Seafood is a specialty at Bates Restaurant, with at least six dishes on the menu every day, including famous Chowder, Mussels, Prawns, Scallops, Sardines, Salmon, Hake, Trout and Plaice. The complimentary brown bread served to every customer is freshly baked every day by the Bates team, as is the cherry tomato and olive oil bread. The black olive and sundried tomato tapenades are also homemade, along with the majority of the dessert dishes. As well as offering a wide range of vegetarian, gluten free and healthy options, Bates Restaurant also has an extensive children’s menu.

Best meal of the trip, the staff were great and the food superb, we had steak, seafood, Mussels , all were very good served in a timely manner, and very tasty.

The surroundings are very very traditional and i would recommend this place if in the area!

I dined at this restaurant last year with my husband and we had a great experience. This year, I traveled to Ireland with my son and wanted to enjoy another great meal. We booked an early reservation of 5:30. We were the first diners there. Shortly after we ordered, a couple with a baby came to the restaurant. They didn't have a reservation but the restaurant was able to squeeze them in. They decided to seat them right behind my son and I... the restaurant was completely empty, so why seat a couple with a baby right next to us? The baby ended up being completely fussy and crying throughout our entire dinner. This isn't a cheap restaurant. I was so frustrated. If the restaurant had been full and that was the only place to seat them, it would be different. And shortly after, another family with a young child came to the restaurant, with reservations. Knowing a young child was coming, they easily could have planned on having them sit next to each other. It completely ruined our dining experience and the manager didn't give a crap. Frankly, he was rude.

Good food but very slow service. One waiter for the whole restaurant on a Friday night. Food was food but a little overpriced and portions quite small. Make sure you have three courses or you will go hungry! Good for a small little local eatery.
