Owner description: On the eastern side of the Etna volcano, in the woods of the National Park and facing the sea of Taormina, the Gambino vineyards are a pleasure for your senses and for your heart. A Pleasure for your sight, because they represent one of the best models of Etna vineyards of high altitude: in an exclusive natural environment, at 800 meters above sea level, the vineyards lay on sunny and airy terracing that have a breathtaking panorama. A pleasure for your sense of smell, for the unmistakable perfumes of the volcano vegetation. A pleasure for your heart, because the vineyards and wine are great passion that, for over twenty years, involves and guides the Raciti Gambino family.

During June, my husband and I were sailing around Sicily and Malta for a two week holiday. We had a few nights docked in Taormina and decided to do a day trip up to Mt Etna with a private guide, followed by lunch and wine tasting at a local winery......which turned out to be Gambino Winery. I've been to a lot of wineries around the world, but I must say this one was something very special - not only for its location on the side of Mt Etna, but for the unusual (but delicious) wines themselves and the people/staff running the place. We bought an inexpensive tasting and platter style package which allowed us to overindulge in local cheeses, breads, cold meats etc. plus we tried and drank as many of Gambino's wines as we could over the entire afternoon. The staff were hugely informative, absolutely charming to speak with and treated everyone as family and as if they were the most important guest in the building. The wines themselves were so unusual tasting and colored (I'm sure from the minerals in the soil sitting on Mt Etna) and were completely addicting......and no hangover!! We absolutely loved our experience and felt it was our best day in Sicily. Thank you Gambino Wines - I wish we could get your wines here in New Zealand!!

Had a lovely afternoon at Gambino. Follow the details on their website map and it's easy to find.

We booked and travelled there independently from Taormina. Word of warning it's 70e one way from Taormina to Gambino Winery so an organised tour maybe more cost effective and easy to find online, but I suggest you prebook.

On arrival they greeted us like friends and thrust a glass of lovely refreshing white wine straight in my hand...... definitely my kinda place I thought!!!

The vineyard itself is great value for money. 28e each for maybe 8 wines (they are generous with their pouring so I may have lost count!) and a selection of matched food which consisted of cheese, antipasto, sausage and a sweet thing... all very nice. I took a particular liking to a red and the bottle was left in the table to help myself to another glass!!

The wine sommelier that looked after us was really lovely. He was clearly passionate and knowledgeable about the products and told information in an engaging and humous way. In no way did this feel like an elitist snobby experience. It's easy accessible wine tasting that was fun and informative.

At no point did we feel obliged or pushed to buy wine. We did buys some though..... and they make shipping cases very easy if you want to. This vineyard doesn't mass produce wine it's more boutique wine and as such most of their business is private export to visitors like us.

Would totally visit again and recommend if you in that area.

travelling with my family a group of 6 ..... a bit of a problem finding the place however as it was recommended by a Sicilian I decided to peruse and find the location. Suggested more signs from Linguaglossa .... for any future travelers.
Anyway we get there bright and early 12:00 they open round 11am --- no reservation. The guy Antonio was very helpful as we did the tour just the 6 of us of the property. Met with the owner ... which was also a nice experience and we decided to stay for lunch and wine.... must say that we enjoyed our time ... as left there pretty late in the afternoon. Do go there if you love wine !

We have visited many wineries in many parts of the world and this one is hard to beat! The explanation of the wine making process by Nino Mangano was the best we have ever had. Nino is excellent at his job! Also, being warmly and sincerely greeted by the owner, the elder Mr. Gambino, was a very nice touch. To top it all, the wines we were served were all of the best quality and delicious to drink along with the lunch that we had, which was first-rate. Being hugged by Mr. Gambino as we left topped off a wonderful visit to this special winery that deserves to be visited by many!
