We visited the 3 Monkeys last night around 21:30 as it still looked busy, with a good atmosphere. The restaurant itself looks fairly new and is clean and modern with friendly and welcoming staff. Once seated however we did find that we had to call staff over to order drinks and food.
The menu is large with a wealth of options for meat eaters, though for those who prefer fish or vegetarian, the choice was extremely limited. There were only three vegetarian options for a main meal, all of which were the same ingredients presented in either a chimichanga, fajita or burrito which is surprising since Mexican cuisine tends to feature shrimp and bean variations of popular dishes. There were however the expected staples of a Mexican menu otherwise.
The service after initially calling them over was good and we were not kept waiting long between courses. The drinks menu was again vast with a huge selection of cocktails; we ordered the Cuba Sunset which was delicious!
In comparison to other restaurants in Gouvia, I thought you could get more for the same money elsewhere. However if you are looking for a casual setting, Mexican food and reasonably good value for money, I would recommend it.
