Gracias is a great town to stop in on your way through Honduras. If you are on your way to Celaque National Park or even on your way to the Mayan Ruins in Copan, I recommend stopping at Hotel and Restaurant Guancascos in Gracias. It’s located at the high point of the city right below the San Cristobal Fort, one of the city’s colonial landmarks.
Gracias offers a lot of local flavor and is a peaceful spot to rest and recuperate. You can’t say enough about the view from the restaurant. Looking out over the town, past the church and town square, to the mountains beyond, it is the perfect place to take coffee or tea while you watch the morning sun shine down or grab breakfast on your way up the mountain to the national park. They’ve got free wi-fi too, so you can check in with the outside world while the afternoon storms roll in.
I’ve stayed at the hotel a couple of times and the rooms are really comfortable. Guancascos was built in traditional style and stays cool and comfortable. The hot shower was great after a few days up on the mountain. The rooms and grounds were family friendly, and even though they were hosting several large groups they were happy to have us backpackers for a few days. Everyone was really friendly and they even had English speaking staff.
Hotel and Restaurant Guancascos has excellent food, clean dry comfortable beds, hot showers, internet access, cold beer, and a great view. I would definitely stay there again and highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Por la vista son mejores las del segundo piso, pero si quiere estar cerca del jardín puede quedarse en las de abajo.
