We stayed here in mid-May 2015. On arrival at about 5pm we collected the keys and the owner informed us that her son would visit us later. Mr Murphy arrived at 8.30pm when we were in the middle of dinner to show us how to use the electricity meter (takes 2 euro coins) and an oil meter (takes 1 euro coins). We had booked via Hogans Irish Cottages (Sykes Holidays) where the ad stated that fuel and power were included. It took 24 hours to resolve this (we contacted Hogas/Sykes in the morning) and the owner's son eventually unlocked his metres and we were able to re-circulate coins through the metre as needed.
The ads also state that there is a shop nearby or within 2 minutes walk. The only shop we could find is the 'Trading Post' which is where you can buy and sell old things. We were hoping for a shop to buy groceries. Although technically the ads are right there is a shop within a 2 minute walk the nearest shop which was useful to us as holiday makers was about 5km away between Boolteens and Inch.
It wasn't the best start to a holiday we felt misled and whilst it didn't ruin our holiday left us feeling uncomfortable.
On the plus side, the house is in a great location on the Wild Atlantic Way within easy reach of the Dingle Peninsula and 'Ring of Kerry' routes which are both stunning, and also if you take some of the interior passes through some beautiful mountain scenery. The house itself is clean and comfortable, slightly squeaky beds, but otherwise a nice house. The house is on a road which does get busy, but only for short periods and is mostly quiet at night. We all like to stay in very quiet locations and can honestly say the road did not disturb us. It is not the main coach route for Dingle. VIew of the Macgillycuddy's Reeks mountains from all front windows are truly wonderful, and lovely views of some of the lower Slieve Mish Mountains from the rear windows, although one bedroom does also overlook the cemetary, and next door is a small private car park for a neighbouring office. You do need a car to stay here and there is plenty of car parking in rear of the house as well as a seating area and a grass area.
