Tricky one. Very old décor (obviously purposely so) but pleasant and large. Very well attended on last Friday of September. Friendly atmosphere ... someone was celebrating a birthday and the whole place joined in singing Happy Birthday to the elderly lady. Wife and I had Eye Fillet with prawn topping and the only disappointment was the topping of only 3 small prawns for the additional $9.90. Eye fillets (pieces selected by us from display) were cooked as specified and very flavoursome and tender. As mentioned by other reviewers, the pepper sauce was much too weak. Old style jacket potato was excellent as was the coleslaw. I was a little reluctant to order the coleslaw after reading some previous comments but glad I did, the pepper sauce adding to its flavour. Garlic bread was fine. Son and family had ribs and the two children had a steak (child) dinner which looked great. They all enjoyed the dinner and desserts, and two of us had coffee. Son wished there was an option for mashed potato but owner said they were having a consistency problem at the moment. With a bottle of wine and one Moscato, the meal could be considered reasonably priced at $306, but again three small prawns for $10 is unreasonable. Would go again.

haven't been to cav's for years. Steak was good by itself the add ons were terrible chopped up lettuce just like coles packet stuff. Pasta was terrible. If they want to improve there offer they should go and eat where they make great pasta. Send your manager to have pasta at Manos paradise point, copy what they do they are packed every night because they do great food and pasta to die for. Staff were very good but you need to give them the goods to work with. A wrapped up potato in alfoil old hat like Coles cafeteria. You are promoting yourself as a great steak house. Check out Moo Moo's Breakfast Creek hotel.

Thanks for the review.

Breakfast Creek Hotel and Cav's are very much the same due to it being the same family who produced the same product so I am not sure where we went wrong.

Would of liked on the night to clear up any misconceptions.

Thanks again

A steak house that can't cook steak

The steak (Med/rare) hadn't been rested... as soon as you cut it, the juices just ran all over the plate and it was so tough to chew
It had no flavour
Potato served in alfoil (welcome to seventies) served with special bacon topping was horrendous and it gave the very bland potato no flavour at all
A large pile of coleslaw on the plate was so sweet I found it difficult to eat
The 2 cherry tomatoes just rolled around the plate looking for friends.
I had asked for pepper sauce and got about 6 green peppercorns on my steak mixed amongst some pan juices

I am amazed this 1970s time warp has managed to survive. The blurb about its history only makes the experience very sad that people have accepted this low standard of food for so long

It was the worst steak both my partner and I had ever had, please don't judge the Hunter or Victorian beef they serve ..... it's defiantly the skill set behind the counter

Our apologises we weren't up to your standard.

We work very hard to keep our standards.

There are plenty of choices other than our traditional salad and potato. These are a hit with over 1200 customers each week. So your comments we find are unfair.
Usually a chat on the night can fix any of your issues.

We recently visited cavs steak house for dinner. Expecting the same great quality steak and ribs. What we recieved was very tough , dry without any taste . I have had better at the local hotel for less than half of what cavs charges. I will never be back an absolute disgrace.
