What a shame as this place used to be great but the service or rather the lack of it really lets this place down now. We have been going here on a regular basis for a few year but over the last 12 months there are less staff and they just don't seem interested. You have to call them over for everything and they don't even provide water on the table anymore. Time to go elsewhere which is a shame as the food is usually very good although the last 2 times the tandoori chicken has been very dry.

Visited on a Monday night as we were going to go thai but it was closed. Butter chicken aussie hot was mild while the lamb jalfrezi aussie hot was too hot overpowering so couldn't taste any thing. Loved the spinach and cheese Naan bread. Wouldn't recommend.

I'd read several reviews of masala island so thought we should book for a Fri night. Lucky we did there were only 2 tables free & they filled by the time we left.
We decided on the mixed vege entree, tandoori lamb chops as entrees with a goat chumba walka (excuse the bad spelling) as a shared main. I prefer to try the specialty curries rather than the std korma, masala, rojhan josh versions to see what a proper indian restaurant can do, and we certainly weren't disappointed
Overall the meal size selection was a great decision as both entrees were generous serves. The vege platter had 2 large samosas, fried eggplant slices, a couple of pakoras & a heap of onion bhajis. The lamb entree had 4 chops; delicious taste, tender, and a decent sized chop.
The main was ordered as a med/hot, as we generally find that a medium curry served to a non-indian person is too mild. And med/hot is exactly what we got; good heat without blowing your head off. The goat was tender with a tasty but still creamy coconut sauce, the naan was a generous portion & the raita helped cool the chilli when required.
Service was prompt from seating to clearing the plates & there was a reasonable variety of wines at an excellent per glass rate.
We really enjoyed our meal, it was comfortable, busy, not too noisy and much better value than some local competitors. And we're already planning our next visit for more lamb chops!!

As a coeliac I am very specific with my dietary requirements. I have been to this restaurant on many occasions and each time they are more than happy to make me feel confident that my food will be made without contamination and it's tasty.

I have had numerous dishes and although continuity is slightly off, meaning the taste of dishes vary from week to week, they're still just as tasty, just that they taste different each time.

This little restaurant is a nice alternative to Randhawas which is just across the road. They are both good restaurants, and Masala provides a cosy intimate dining experience, with simple decor. While the dishes are similar to most Indian restaurants, it is cooked in a very different style and is a welcome surprise. The staff are attentive and the byo makes it an affordable night out.
