“Good service and 3D show”
Reviewed 12 January 2012

We bought the unlimited family package and an extra ticket for our 3rd child. The boys went for all the planetarium shows and enjoyed them. The Mt Cook 3D movie was good too. Staying at the hotel allowed our boys to catch the shows and for mum and dad to rest. Much more convenient then if we were not staying at the hotel. If you do not stay at the hotel, you may only be able to catch one planetarium and the Mt Cook 3D due to the way they schedule the shows.

We took 2 tours with them. The Glacier Explorer tour and the stargazing tour. The staff at the counter of the Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre was also helpful and patient. The best service we experienced at the Hermitage.

We booked the Stargazing tour for our first night. As the sky was cloudy, we were given the option to rollover our tour to the second night which we did. Unfortunately, the sky was still bad on the second night and we were given the option to just do the planetarium portion of the activity at a reduced price. My husband and 2 olders boys went for it while my daughter and i sat out of it. The boys and thought is was ok. Weather is nobody's fault and cannot be controlled.

Will review the Glacier Explorer separately.

“Stargazing!”
Reviewed 10 January 2012

Come here for their night stargazing tours for $50/adult, which includes a 40-minute demonstration in the theatre. This is very weather dependent but you will receive a partial refund if the guide decides it's too cloudy for stargazing.

“A mountaineers interest”
Reviewed 5 January 2012

Those that like mountaineering will find the Alpine Centre interesting. Nice exhibits of Sir Edmunds life. One can also find additional exhibits at the Auckland Museum.

“History, nature and all in a relaxed Kiwi style”
Reviewed 5 January 2012

Newly revamped this is a vast improvement on the original, some serious money has been spent here and it is definately worth a visit.
This is the place to get the best photos/posters of the area, and the knowledge of the staff is priceless.
The area off to the left of entrance is dedicated to the memories of those who have perished on Mt Cook and is done with typical kiwi dignity and is a poignent little area.
There are Moari carvings, a vast collection of photos over the years, and a collection of wildlife and videos.
Everytime we have visitors, we take them here and I wouldn't mind going again.
By the way - check out the Musterer's Hut for food and coffees, the view is truely breathtaking
