“Falling short of words...!”
Reviewed 6 March 2012

Stayed here for a night during my honeymoon trip. Our room category was CHALET. My travel agent NTB had informed us earlier that there is a attached kitchen in this room so we had planned to cook here to add a different experience to our holiday. The kitched is well equipped and you just need to bring along with you what ever you want to eat. The room size is good and comfortable. The view of Mt. Cook in the morning is breathtaking. Just step out of the room to see this.

Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Center at this hotel is a wonderful experience in itself. You can spend some time in watching 3D movies here.

Room Tip: I recommend you to take a Chalet if you are on a honeymoon trip or if you are looking for privacy.

The hotel is huge and wonderful. Our room had a balcony, as did everyone in our group, with an incredible view of Mt. Cook. The hiking trails are right next to the hotel. Trails are very user-friendly.

The dinner buffet and breakfast buffet were excellent; again with wonderful views.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony with views of Mt. Cook.

The view from our room was fantastic to stay here you need a money tree and we ate at the restaurant all you want for $60 each well over priced,I would advise people not to eat the prawns there as they were totally awful no flavour yuck just not worth it.overall I would not go or recommend this motel.

Dear valuable guest,

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback on Tripadvisor.com.
We welcome your feedback as it assists us in our aim to consistently keep our hotel facilities and it’s products at a very high standard for our guests. I will certainly review together with our Executive Chef the quality of our prawn dish on the buffet and revise the recipe if needed. I can honestly say that this is the first time that I have received feedback from guests raising their concern about the quality and taste of this particular dish.
The ‘All You Can Eat’ dinner buffet in our Alpine Restaurant offers great value for money to those guests who are up for a ‘big’ dining experience. The majorities of our guests do enjoy the buffet and do not mind the price, which reflexes the quality and variances of the buffet. However, I do agree with you that the value for money aspect is maybe not visible to those guests who only want to enjoy a one-plate meal. For this purpose we have several dinning options in and around the hotel, which in your case were most likely more suitable than dining at the buffet.
Despite the above comment, I hope you have enjoyed your time with us and we are looking forward to welcome you back to the Hermitage Hotel, Aoraki Mount Cook in the future.

Kind regards,

Alexander Tschampel

Staff are very helpful. Room excellent - however, don't walk into the bathroom barefoot - very sharp edge.

A spectacular location with views of Mount Cook that can't be beaten. We stayed here for 3 days which was long enough for us in summer but for people interested in walking and outdoor adventure longer might be required.
Our first night was in a motel unit which was very nice and free shuttle to the hotel & back on request which worked superbly.
The following 2 nights were in the main Hotel and in a Premium Room on the 9th floor with fantastic views.
The premium Restaurant 'Panorama' was outstanding as was the service with prices reasonably modest considering the location.
The other Restaurant offers a very reasonable $62 smorgasbord with a glass of wine or beer. The food quality was very good and plenty variety.
The Cafe is another great place with quality food at very reasonable prices and a nice balcony to sit and watch the world go by.

Room Tip: Pay for a premium room if you can its worth the extra, the higher up the better views.
