Overall, we enjoyed staying there. But there were some pros and cons to mention.
*Pros: Close to the sea. It's not in the first line but it's like 2 mins to the beach. It is on a hill, which made me worry at first, because we had some elderly people in the group, but it isn't high so this wasn't a problem at all. The house is nicely positioned on the outskirts of the town, so away from the crowds, yet 5 mins to the main promenade if you want a bit of a buzz in the evening.
*Cons: Very close to a busy inter-city road. (The marker on the map is wrong, it's actually right under the big road.) And bedrooms are on the road side, so you can hear cars and trucks whizzing by all night long. I could only sleep with earplugs (even with windows closed). Car parking exists but awkward - ok for a small car but tricky for any larger ones.
*Pros: The owners are great. Very friendly. Always go an extra mile to help you with anything you need. Even cooked a diner for us on one of the nights.
*Cons: They don't speak much English. Their daughter speaks good English but she is not always there. We knew a bit of Ukrainian/Polish so we managed to communicate pretty well. But I don't know how this would work if your only language is English.
*Pros: Spacious, clean, well maintained. Kitchen has everything you might need. Bedrooms are large, good proper beds. I usually complain if the A/C is not in the bedroom, but their combination of A/Cs in the kitchen and in the corridor worked surprisingly well. Bathrooms are clean, no problems with hot water. Large terrace with an excellent view to the sea.
*Cons: Nothing really.
I loved Podgora. It has a very pleasant atmosphere for family holidays. Not too noisy but not too dull either. Pleasant promenade with restaurants and shops. Lovely pine-trees and palm-trees that create plenty of shade. Great views around with mountains close by. The beach is pebbles as most Chroatian beaches but there are sections close to the apartment where pebbles are small enough to walk on. Do try different sections as there are huge differences between sections even few meters apart. The water is exceptionally clean. There was a lot of talks on forums about sea urchins but I actually haven't seen a single one at the walk-into-the-water depth. The beach gets fairly crowded as it's not large, but we were coming around 10am, and we had no problem finding a spot. I really like the pine-trees as I don't like roasting on the sun so I could always hide in the shade when it gets hot. Shopping wise, there are a couple of shops closer to harbour (about 10 mins) that have enough selection for day-to-day. But we did try to do big shopping in supermarkets outside Split when we travelled.
